My Garter Snake wont eat at all

I caught a garter snake a few weeks ago and have been trying to feed it but it wont eat anything. When i try feeding it fish they end up died in the bowl. When i go to feed it a pinkie he bites it but doesn’t eat it. He also doesn’t like the worms or crickets. And i have notice that he has been getting darker.I have no clue what to do.

They don’t eat crickets. Put some live minnows in front of it or baby frogs.

but your best bet is to let the thing go.
If its wild it deserves to be in the wild.
You can go buy a captive bred one for 5-10 bucks at most petstores or websites.
Good Luck!

well tis comgin that time to hibernate as well..so les eaating happening...and when i catch garters in spring/summer.. i have to "Train" them to eat fish..they get the hang of it after a while and scarf them down (i have vitamin spray stuff from ESU reptile thingi use on the fish) and then let them go befor hibernation..they cost more to eat fish in the long run compared to a full grown boa X.X

but yea....careful when you release it though if you do..amke sure its a warm enough day!!!!! not windy or cloudy for example...gona be hard.. =S
i learned that the hard way

just joind but i have been catching snakes since i was about 7 years old, the garter snakes i catch up here in North Eastern PA. seem to really like redback salamanders, night crawlers (worms), and alot of other little grubs i find in my yard. i just got a garter snake 3 days ago that i saved from a bicycle accident, some kid ran him over about 3" behind his head, hes pretty messed up and always has a bend right there but i got him to eat a worm and salamander the other night by just dropping them in the cage and covering it with a towel so he had privacy. i found that most wild snakes are scared when you watch them and will most likely just leave the prey alone untill he feels safe. just my .02
