 Loose substrate?

Ok so i have this garter snake like te size of a pen, and ive been feeding him worms on reptile bark and i was wondering could it hurt him if the reptile bark got inside of him? And also what do you guys use as substrate? Also if you can post pictures of your setups!

it could cause impaction if he swallows it.it’s reccomended to feed your snake in a rubbermaid container or bucket.
i use half reptibark half aspen bedding.

feeding in a seperate container is not the way to go. after a snake eats they have to digest their food and when we handle them their stress levels go up and could cause them to bring the food back up. just think, in the wild there is no1 to stop them from eating dirt, twigs, leaves, etc etc. they will survive aslong as they arent eating big piles of it, hell they can dogest bones.

just get yerself a food dish or any kind of plate you have to set the food on inside the cage, after the snake is done eating remove the plate if you like.

but until all garters can digest that one pebble that got caught in their food, and caused impaction, i wouldn’t give that advice.
