wow, im not sure what to say... You say you rescued that snake... you put it in a box, have not treated its wounds, not taken it to the vet, and are leaving it open to the air and substrate to infection, and are about to ship it away you dont know how far on a stressful trip that many un injured snakes dont survive... in the winter. Also if he was in a bicycle accident that means he has broken bones that arnt being treated... That gash is just wide open And I can see that broken bones and the most likely infected tissue. Get that animal to a vet, or someone how knows how to treat those injuries, or reseach the care your self after vet and try to get him better... That snake is in HORRIBLE shape and might not survive after this much time of of being injured.

I by all means thank you for trying to rescue the snake... but to ship it away on a plane, or not even knowing WHO your giving it to, thats just inhumane to the snake.

reptilefreak23 do you know what he looks like now? no you don’t, he was treated and is doing perfectly fine. you do not see an open "gash" you see a part of his shed that did not make it off, that has been removed. he has no open wounds and no infection.

that is an old image, he was in shed when i got him so that’s why you see that so called "gash". the snake is far from HORRIBLE. i simply used that image so he/she got a look at the pattern.

heres a image of him in his old setup when i first got him home, he then had a few open wounds and was treated with neosporin NOT THE + PAIN RELIEF.

well here ya go, i even took the time to get some updated pics just to make you feel better. not the best but its hard getting pics, he doesn’t like to be handled too much yet

i assure you there are no open wounds, just scaring and trouble shedding. i usually have to get him out and let him run thru a towel for a few minutes for the rest to come off

next time ask before going off on someone

Sry, you can delete about half of my last post, But I didnt really feel the need to ask "was this picture recent or months ago"
I opologize, And will thank you for taking care of the snake, But I still disagree to the factor of giving him away or shipping him. I thnk That snake still has some broken bones, around those previously open areas.

I wasnt trying to go off on you at all... I just wanted to see too that that snake got the best conditions possible. And with the pics that were provided at that time it made me think that that snake has been in that condition for 2 or 3 months.

sry, but there was no where on your post that said it was previous.

I suggest you keep doing what your doing with him, and put him on some calcium supplementation to see if it will help his bones heal better if they are indeed fractured. (fractured and out of place bones are very common in even snakes that have been in captivity there hole lives... from what I can tell in the recent pics he still got some bone issue)
You should probably see a vet if possible as well.

In these last posts I never meant any attack on you in any way, just wanted to see to that that snake is OK.
Good Luck with him!

he has seen a local vet, his bones were broken but look to have healed up but that part of his body is fused together and he cannot move it, his health is 100% better then the day i got him when he wouldn’t even move. i do not want to ship this garter that’s why i asked where the original poster was located, if close enough this would be a good keeper for someone that likes to take in handy-cap snake, i call him handy-cap because he cannot move that part of his body but that doesn’t stop him from living an almost normal life.

i did get a little cocky in my last post but that;s mostly due to having garter poo all over me and my floor and he managed to get loose on me once again, I apologize for going off the handle on my last post, it was uncalled for and not like me. don’t worry tho, he seems to like the one corner of the room and i always find him there when he manages to wiggle free

you’ll need at least a 30 gallon for a corn, at least (to be safe).
