Today we realized that our house gecko already hatched a baby without us even knowing their was an egg in the tank. Should we be looking for more babies? or is 1 normal? also my husband is worries that the baby will be eaten by the adult gecko’s.. do they do that? and any extra care tips for baby geckos would be awesome... thanks for the help! |

Yes, there probably will be at least one other baby. However, one baby is normal. The female will lay 1-2 eggs per week for around a month. In total they usually lay 12-14 eggs and they WILL breed again, so if you don’t want any more babies, separate the parents. You NEED to separate that baby ASAP. House geckos can and will eat their babies and it’s NOT a pretty sight. Babies can be kept in a ten gallon tank for the first couple of months. You can set it up the same as the parents, same humidity (80-85%), same temps(basking: 85F, warm: (80-83F), and cool: (77-80F). Get a colony of flightless fruitflies or pin head crickets at your local pet shop and they should feed fine on their own. Mist the cage twice or three times a day as they drink droplets off of leaves and the sides. Good luck with your babies! JoAnne |
