I’m new in the crested form - hello!
These are my two baby cresties. Hopefully they are boy and girl - with the best educated guess you can get. (I work at a little pet shop where the owner breeds most of his animals.) these are his babies that we are hopeing will breed in time! I named them Glen and Opal. Opal is the girl, who droped her tail the 1st day i got her! grrrr....and Glen is a hottie! who still has his tail. yesterday some kid brought in his adult crestie which is very ill with MBD. I took him home and he’s now getting some much needed TLC. his jaw is rubbery and he needs some help eating his baby food, and his feet dont shed well, so he gets warm baths :) i’ll post pics of him later. still thinking of a name for the sick one. see ya! |

you mentioned baby food. is this the main thing you feed them? do you put any supplements in it? baby food by its self is not a good main food for crested geckos. a good alternative to baby food is crested gecko diet made by Repashy here is where you can get it http://www.pangeareptile. com/products.htm (take out the space between "." and "com") good luck with your cresties :) do you have any pictures of their cages? and pictures of the sick one would be nice too. |

But babyfood doesn’t sound to safe, I know that you have plenty of people telling you this, and no matter what your thoughts are about these responces just remember that they are just showing concern for your babies. When I went to my vet a long time ago for my waterdragon she said "We can spend the rest of our lives living in this room (refering to the small exam room) eating nothing but fritos, doesn’t mean that it would be a healthy or long one" To this day, I just love that quote. So instead of telling you "FEED HIM CGD" I’ll offer you the fruit blend alternative, as that has been a very enjoyable dish for my babes, and maybe something the owner might want to try out. If you do want to try it, tell me and I’ll post the recipe given to me... Changing topics here, how old are the little ones, and what basis was the breeder going on to make an educated guess of the sexes. I’m more curious than anything. It would be funny if they were flipped and your male was females, and vice versa... but anyways good luck with the sick one, and your other two cuties. Post some more picks of them so we can bask in their glory |

Here’s what the recipe he gave me says: Fruit and Yogurt Mix: 1 Mango (Chopped) 1 Mrdium to large very ripe banana (sliced) 1 Soft pear (Chopped) 3 to 4 Figs (pealed) 1 Peach Handful of Blueberries 5 to 7 Strawberries (optional) Handful of Grapes (optional) 6oz to 8oz of low fat plain yogurt (must be live bacterial culture) *NO CITRUS FRUIT* Place chopped fruits and yogurt in blender and blend until smooth place mixture into ice cube tryas or 1oz deli cups then place in freezer when it comes time to feed, take out the proper portion(s) and thaw 30 to 45 minutes Supplements can be added at serving time if needed (Calcium) *one portion equals 1oz* When the weather had started to warm up, I went to the food store and picked up the ingredients. The only thing I had to substitute was the figs, using strawberries instead, since the only kind being sold right now is those processed chewy raisin type, and I knew that wouldn’t have been good. Got a big container of yogurt and any extra was mixed with the left over fruit for us to snack on. As far as feeding goes, I’ve been partially alternating between the bland and CGD. I’ve been giving them the blend about twice a week, crickets during the third feeding; then I’ll substitute the CGD for one of the blend feedings. They don’t notice the difference, both are mostly gone in the morning when I take out the dishes. The blend, though, does have more of a fragrance than the CGD, and I have noticed that they find it a lot quicker than the CGD. Quote: I would use soy yogurt over any dairy. Reptiles can’t digest lactose well.
I thought it was wierd to put the yogurt in, and was also concerned about the lactose thing, but with yogurt the bacteria culture inside is actually supposed to help you digest the stuff. They kind of break it down for you, which is why yogurt is good for you and helps ease the tummy. Not really too fond of soy, it’s actually not as good for you as people have come to think, especially when it comes to men. It causes people to be gassy, and contains estrogen (or something like it) which gives men a shinkage problem and reduced fertility. The reason for soy, as far as I’ve heard, is provide a source of iron for the non-meat eater as well as being an alternate of animals and animal by-products (milk, burgers, etc.) Anyways, there it is...a better alternative to babyfood, and quite delish too. And here comes the brindle who was raised on this stuff...look how cute s/he is |
