that depends upon how comfortable the crestie is with being handled. some you could handle all day and they would still fight to stay on your hand when you go back to put it in the cage. but if it is a new crestie, handling can cause some major stress because it is not only getting used to you, but it’s new home as well.

if it is a new guy, you want to give him/her a week to get used to the cage, and then start handling it about five to ten minutes a day, and slowly work up from that. adults get less stressed from handling because they are usually more used to it, and just need to get used to the new scent of the person handling them. [unless they grew up never being handled at all, then they freak out just like the little ones!]

You can always over handle any reptile. Handling is a source of stress, no matter how much the animal may tolerate it. Very frequent handling will often lead to ailments and/or a shorter lifespan.

 Need to know

here are some pictures of the preanal pores

[i did not take those two pictures, i am not sure who did actually, but they were not copyrighted]

although sometimes the pores and the hint of a hemipenis show up at the same time, i have been looking about twice a week since my guy was 8g’s because i just "knew" he was a guy [due to some very un-scientific observations] and the day he dropped a little bit of a bulge was the day he got his pores. he is 14 grams, and here is a picture that shoes his bulge [at least the best one i could get of it!]

as far as feeding goes, the little one is so small at the moment you could put a dab of it on your finger, and unless it is an aggressive eater, it should just lick it off. you can also hold it on one hand and have food in a water bottle cap in the other and just put it near the little ones face, it should lick it, but if not, just put a little dab on the nose and it will lick it off and most likely continue to eat it.

hope these help!

why do you want to hand feed everything? just put the dish of CGD in there and some crickets at feeding time. they are awesome to watch hunt, they will do some amazing acrobatics to catch a cricket.

 Need to know

no, not instantly. i leave it in over night [sometimes two nights], and they will eat several times through out the night, but at 8 grams, s/he is not going to eat very much[my 14 gram male doesn’t even eat a whole 1/8th tsp]. and if you primarily feed by hand, they will get used to it and know that i eat now, or not for the rest of the night [kind of like training your dog to eat once a day, rather than leaving the food out at all times] but you have to do it at the same time each day, which can be an issue because what happens if you ever go out of town, or if you spend the night at a friends house, or have to work later than anticipated... it just throws the whole schedule off. so that is why i don’t hand feed. i do however hand feed the hatchlings for the first week and a half or so, just so they know "OH! THATS what i am supposed to eat!!!!" hahahaha! but even then i leave the food in over night.
