 Finally!!!

Well I woke up this morning and there were eggs in the lay box!!! My very first time encountering eggs from a crested gecko!!! I am so excited. I know how to care for them... So I will write down what I did and what I am going to do but correct me if I am wrong on any part.

Mark the top of the eggs so I know what the top is from the bottom so I don’t switch the sides.

The incubator I will use vermiculite and add some water for moistier but not enough to where there are water dropplets on the top.

My question though is how much parts vermiculite to water? This would help.

The temp in my room is usually around 70-75 degrees so not to worry about the temp needed to incubate.

Any thing I am missing? Or to add...

Thanks and GOD bless :)

P.S. This is my first time wroking with eggs so help. Because I know research but not hands on exp...

 Finally!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! did you do the little egg dance when you found them?

i usually use hatchrite, so i don’t know the exact amount of water you are supposed to add, but i think it is 50/50... ehh, but don’t go by that. the ultimate check is that it is damp, but you can not squeeze any more excess water from it[so squeeze the water out and then you are fine]. you could always check the humidity in the incubator as well, it should be between 95 and 99%, well that is what i keep mine at. and if there is a large temperature fluctuation, don’t be surprised if you do see water droplets forming on the sides of the container. it is normal, but you do want to make sure that the eggs are not touching the sides or the top of the container and that they are about 1/2 way buried. oh and the last thing, you want to open the container once a week for a few seconds just to let in fresh air. also, the eggs will grow as the baby grows inside it, and about a week [maybe two...] before it hatches it will start to look more round than oval...

have you candled them yet?

good luck over the next three months, it will seem like forever, but it is worth it!
[ps: post pics of the parents!!!!!! ]

 Finally!!!

lol I was happy. It woke me up though.lol

Umm candeling them is when you take a flash light and put it to the side of the egg and try to find veins and the yoke right? I have read somewhere that you should try to stay away from that. Is that true?

 Finally!!!

Ok well here are some pics... tell me what you think...

Here is a pic of the Mother Squirt

And here she is when she I first got her when she was about 3 months old

Here is a pic of the Dad. He is the green one in the middle. His name is Sprite and my other female(which also might lay soon) is Lemonade.

Here is Sunkist

And here is Faja he is my cousins CG that I am watching over which will probably end up being mine.lol

And here are the eggs

Squirt she is Red Harly with partial pin stripes. You cannot tell in the pictures but when she is fired up she is burning.lol

Lemonade is a yellow with tiger markings and also some flame on her back. She is an interesting looking one.

Sprite is green.

Sunkist I would call an orange

and Faja is a harly with partial pin strip.

But sadily the pics don’t ever do the lizard the justice.

 Finally!!!

yeah that is what it is. it is really the only way that you will know if an egg is fertile or not, but it isn’t required or anything, and some people don’t candle, it is really just personal preference i think. when i first started breeding i went a little candling happy and did it at least once a week to check up on the progress of the eggs. as long as you don’t flip them upside down or shake them really bad everything should be fine. what i do is i walk into the bathroom with the incubator, turn on my pen light, turn off the over head, and sit down on the ground just so that if anything does happen, there is at least less of a chance of the egg cracking, or going down the drain... omg, i can’t imagine...

now i do it once a month if i can stop myself from doing it more often! it is really cool though because as the eggs get bigger you can start to see the little baby inside. it is really neat, i used to take notes on everything that i saw, and that was why i did it once a week. i still take notes, but i only candle them once a month now just to kind of check up on them make sure everything is going the way the others did! lol, but i weigh the eggs too, so i may just be overly surveillance happy or something! or maybe i am just a nerd!

 Finally!!!

Its 2 parts to 1 part water by weight. From the picture it looks like you have to much water. Pick up some of it and squeeze it if any water comes out there is 2 much. It should also clump when you squeeze and not just break apart, if it breaks apart its 2 dry. Once a week I check the weight of the container and add water as needed since I don’t use air tight containers because of mold. This gives ma a chance to check on the eggs and airs out the container a little. Good Luck!

 Finally!!!

I will probably check the eggs in the next week or so.

I did squeeze the vermiculite as hard as I could before I put the eggs in there. And I drained out all the extra water. The vermiculite clumped up but I scattered it so I could put the eggs in.

The dad(green) has a little crooked tail because that was how I got him. Which I got him from pet-co. But not that I have had him there are no kinks in his tail so I am happy about that.lol So he has a straight tail now. I will try to get an updated picture of him because that was one that I took when I first got him.
