100 gal tank is big enough for 5/6 cresteds. u could have a community of females in there. 1 lone ranger would b overwhelmed w/ that much space and may not b able to find food.

think seriously people. in the wild do they get overwhelmed if they are in more than 30 gallons of room? no i dont think they do. i do not believe in a maximum size for any animal, after all in the wild they have unlimited space. a crested gecko needs a minimum of 20 gallons but as long as you have enough cover for it and its not just a big open tank i do not believe that it would be stressed out or overwhelmed in a 100 gallon. i think it would like the room to explore. and if you tong feed it crickets and always put the CGD in the same spot i think it will be able to find its food just fine.

we as owners want only the best for our animals. in defense of my sons statement the breeder who sold him his crestie told him that to much room could make it hard for him to find his food. now i believe the breeder probly meant that for the juvie that we purchased, but my son may have misunderstood. i think u have raised an interesting point guido1090, but at the same time wow a community in ur house how cool. thank goodness we all have a place to throw ideas out and help each other.

First off..no a 100 gallons is not 2 big for one gecko but it is to big for one tame gecko. In 100 gallons of space your gecko will hide a lot more an be less willing to come out when you want him/her to and be more prone to biting. I have 130 gallon crested tank that I keep 3 adult females in. I plan on putting more in after the breeding season is over and I have issues with the 3 not wanting to come out and being more wild than when I put them in.

yeah i can see that happening. the more room they have the more like the wild it is for them. so they will act more like they do in the wild. i put my 5g gecko straight in to her 30 gallon adult tank. she seemed to love all the room. now she is in a 10 gallon quarantine tank while i am making her 30 gallon a naturalistic.

(i havent seen a bulge yet so i am calling Zazu a "she" for now)

 100 galleon tank?

I had put in a 125g tank in my room, giving it a natural setting. I had gotten this one female that was 29 grams and stuck her in there, siince I had no more other tanks to put her in. I placed two dishes in every other night, two times a week, and once a week would drop in super amounts of crickets. She never had problems with finding food, and the dishes were both half eaten, even when I first fed her in there. I throw in enough crickets that they last beyond the next feeding, often eating the left over gecko diet. She was still very friendly, even after being in the 125 for a couple of months, and her weight skyrocketed to 35. She basically slept in the same corner every morning and traveled the tank at night, and was always easy to spot.

I eventually added in another female at 29 grams and her weight skyrocketed to 35 as well. She sleeps within the bromeliad leaves, and has had no trouble living with the first female. They know where the food is, and during feeding nights they stay close to those areas. neither of them have bitten me or shown aggression whenever I take them out to weight them or just to show them off. The worse thing any of them have done was jump at the nose, which I have found all my cresteds do.

Now there is a third female in there, who was always very antsy, and has a wanderlust, even when living in the smaller tank. She used to be in a tank next to my leachie, and every night I’d hear her chirping at him. Even with a visual divider, she would still chirp at him. She was always a nervous one, and never enjoyed being handled, but a big tank didn’t make her that way, it is just in her personality.

I guess what I’m saying is that a big tank would not be too big for one gecko, and it is no guarentee that the gecko will become "wild". They are smart than most give them credit for, and so long as you feed them in the same places, they will eventually figure out where the food is. If you worry of them starving, throw in lots of crickets. Not only is it an interesting show, but there will be plenty for later, and crickets aren’t stationary so they will eventually bump into the gecko at some point.

thanks for the compliment Guido1090, basically you just have to give him/her the amount of food good for two or three geckos. What’s good about a big tank is being able to have room for more, since cresteds are like potato chips.
