My crestie has a lot of sugar ants in and out side his cage. There attracted to the baby food. Our they harmful to her or will she just feed on them?

im not sure what a sugar ant is or if they are harmfull to her. but you should not be feeding baby food. feed CGD. it is a lot better for them than baby food is.

Ants will attack cresties from time to time so its best to get them out of there asap. I put baby powder around the base of my tanks, ants dont like to cross baby powder for some reason. Also I agree with the above post about the CGD.

depends on where u get it. if you order it from pangea its less than 10 bucks for a 4oz bag.. it will last you a long time for one gecko.
or you can pick it up at petco in a small jar that will also last a long time for about 5 bucks.

what is the temp of the cage? you normally dont need a heat lamp for cresties because they prefer the temp to be in the 70s. and thats normally what people keep their houses at.

i cant tell the brand in the pics. is it in a T-REX bottle? if it is then it is made by Repashy and it is what most of us use i believe. it is good stuff.

that is the stuff. I think the caps ome in different colors, but they area ll the same... the heatlapm is pretty unnecisary. I suggest a fish tank type light, so it doesnt produce much heat. If your temps are fine with that lamp and 15w bulb then go for it. I would test it uot to be sure, remember, not over 80.

I know that they dont need a heat lamp but they say it brings out more color in them and plus the ant issue didn’t go away so I had to put paper towels as her bedding. and i cant get any other bedding because i live in a small town and they don’t have any pet shops here.But I will be heading to the city that I get all my stuff from.And ya the CGD is T-REX brand

that is the right CGD then.

who says the heat lamp brings out more color? i have never heard this. i have heard however that then the cresties are "fired up" it means they are stressing out. if that is true then yeah, making the cage way too hot for them by using a heat lamp will probably stress them and make them fired up all the time. but that would be a really bad idea to do.

I have herd that the UVA/Uvb florescent lights do bring out color in crested geckos. I find that florescents are better because they do not give off any heat. Thats what I use. And it does seem to bring out some better color.

you may have to mix the CGD with baby food at first and slowly get her completely eating the CGD.

i do agree that UVA/UVB lights do bring out better colors in most reptiles, i have never heard of heat lamps doing that tho. cresties are nocturnal tho so they dont need the UV rays. in my opinion a UV light is a waste of money for a nocturnal animal. the heat lamp just raises the temp in the cage.

if you want a light for the cage you could do what i do and use compact florescent lights from walmart or a store like that. i got a 3 pack for 5$ and they dont put off any heat.

sorry if i came across as being rude in my other posts. i just didnt want to see you cook your gecko because you were badly informed and the cage got too hot.

okay. if you think the cage might get a little cold you might want to get a thermometer and find out for sure. you dont want them getting too hot either.

and also if someone told you that putting a heat light on them would make them have better colors, they were giving you bad information. that’s all i meant by saying that your were badly informed.

thats weird cuz i breed fruit flies and i have never had any problems with them in my crestie tank.. id say give the tank a scrub down and see if they go away.
