 Adopting two cresties.

So i talked to the guy at petco and they are putting them up for adoption [free]. I was looking at cages and there is a 29 tall at the one pet store. Will this be alright for two cresties? I was told by my friend/vet who works at reptile land that this will be fine.

Can someone also give me the lo-down on the enclosure. Ive been looking up caresheets and i want your opinions on whether to do a natural tank or just use fake plants?

Not sure on the two’s sexes either. Will inly the males have the bulge like leos? Anyone have pics of male and female?

29 gallons are perfect for two. first a natural tank looks beutiful and keeps up humidity. Fake stuff is easy to clean and easy matenience. Ur choice. Oh, and with a natural tank it might be a lot more $$$

Also make sure u have 2 females ur adopting. Male and female will mate too much, while male and male will fight

29 will work for 2 adult females. if you end up with 2 males or a male and a female then you will need to get a second cage for them.

Here’s a link to a care sheet on Pangea, http://www.pange areptile.com/id52.htm (remove space), near the bottom is directions to determine gender. Still, if the cresteds are still young/small than you may not be able to properly sex them.

Natural or commercial (fake plants and paper towels) style enclosures are a matter of choice. They both have their goods and bads, and it is up to you which you would rather deal with. It also depends on the age of the gecko, as a natural enclosure is generally used for just adult geckos. Personally, I prefer the natural as humidity is more easily regulated, clean up is easier (poop can just be mixed into the soil and ’eaten’ by the plants), and it looks nicer.

Well we’ve been going to petco everyday and asking if they are up yet and they arent. The guy said give it a week or so. I just found that they actualy have 3 in the tank but are only adopting out 2. Two are female [the ones we will get] and one is male.Could the females possibly already be fertile since they are in with the male right now? I havent asked if they got any eggs but i will.Does anyone have directions on how to make a natural tank? I saw a caresheet about a really nice one but i cant find it again.thanks!xoLeah

I feel that you can get a lot of info about building a natural vivarium for cresteds from people who keep dart frogs. Their viv. requirements are kind of similar in that they need a lot of hiding spots, places to climb, and can easily drown in water. Here’s some links...

Someone actualy came in and bought all 3 of them for full price. Dang =[.
But i talked to Joe [the awesome employee] and he said they order them in for like $15 each so if i give him the money he will order some for me so i dont have to pay full price.

I love joe =] he makes petco stand-able.
