Sld I get A Crested Gecko?

Me and my brother are going to get a tank and split it so we can get 2 types of reptiles.. our original plan was to get A croc skink and a blue tongued skink but the BTS is too expensive so we decided to look at geckos... we are looking for babies and wld be wanting more than one... cld we put more than one baby in the same enclosure?... also, how handleable are they? We want something kinda active so if you have any other, reasonably priced suggestions please tell... thank you!

if you’re going to get more than one reptile to share a cage, they need to be the same kind. most reptiles aren’t similar enough to other reptiles to be able to house them together. also, you need to make sure the cage is big enough for both reptiles you’re acquiring, and that they are both female. you can start with babies, but if they turn out to be a male and female, or a male and male, they’ll have to be separated when they mature.

cresties are a good start, although unless you get two babies from one place, that lived in the same cage, you need to quarantine them for 2 weeks. this is so you can monitor each gecko individually and make sure they’re eating and pooping regularly, and are not sick.

cresties are fairly handleable as babies, and very easily handled as adults once they get used to it. they tend to be more active during the evening.

if you’re going to get any reptile, do plenty of research. find multiple care sheets, and check the information against each other. pangea reptile . com (all together) has a great care sheet for cresties, and a crestie specific forum. there’s a lot more activity over there if you want to get advice from other crestie owners.

another great starter gecko is a leopard gecko. they’re active at night and very easily handled once they become accustomed to it. they also come in a large variety of colors and patterns, and are much more affordable than cresties. you can house 2 babies in a 10gal tank, but they should be moved to a 20gal (preferably 20gal long) once they hit about 4 or 5 inches. it would be fairly easy to find two adult or juvenile females that could be housed together in a 20gal long tank.

if you’d like any more information on either or both of these geckos, i’d be happy to help.

leos are a great starter gecko, but they should NEVER be housed together. it leads to aggression and eventually the death of one of them either over time or in a violent act. just not a good idea.

cresteds are great, but have very specific requirements. if you want to split a tank and have another animal with the crested, the only other species that is semi-similar to them are gargoyles. other than them, you aren’t going to have much luck.

what size tank are you looking at getting too? and what is your budget for supplies? some animals require more lighting, uth’s, special substrate, and more so it is something to think about when setting up a tank.

did you maybe mean male leopard geckos can’t be housed together? or can’t be housed with other reptile species? because i personally used to house multiple females together with absolutely no problems, and i know for a fact that there are many people on this website that house females together.
