 Any improvements needed?

Looking for some constructive criticism on my new 40 gal tall crested setup. Any suggestions? The one change I may be making is putting in a humidifier, but I’m worried that will shatter the bulbs and strip lights, so maybe I’ll use an ultrasonic fogger instead. Misting 3x daily doesn’t cut it in the winter. Thanks.

looks good

anyway you can cover the top with something?

a humidifier can make it too humid for them especially if you always keep it running
it doesnt need to be a constant high humidity
and those ultrasonic ones are not worth the money you pay for them from what i have heard

well cresties do not need uvb or heat (most of the time) too much heat can kill them

and no uvb will get in but heat will still get in if you really want uvb to get in then only cover 1/2 of the tank top and that will at least help some

the main thing is you cant leave the humidifier stuff on too much b/c too high of humidity will cause a respiritory infection

what does your humidity usually read throughout the day?

they are low wattage strip lights, keep the temp between 70-80. The forced hot air in the house usually drops the humidity to 50-60%. I can easily regulate humidity by either attaching a timer to a humidifier or using a small water dish with a fogger to ensure low water transferal.

a drop to 50-60% is fine

and should happen, it should only be really high right after you spray and then should go down afterward like i said too high of humidity for an extended period of time will cause respiritory problems

I have a Habba Mist on my tank. It’s not great for "mist" production (more of a spray than a mist), but it has a built in timer so you can adjust it easily. It’s worked well for me!
