i think for the most part its a surprise. i’ve seen pictures of babies that look nothing like their parents, or only have similar coloring, or are almost identical. i asked my biology professor what she thought the reason for this might be, and she thought that maybe the geckos carry numerous types of patterns in their genes and are therefor more of a grab bag. that’s just her theory though. i do know that dalmatian spotting is supposed to be a heritable trait, and i think the pin striping might be, but i’d have to look into that. so basically, i don’t think you can classify a crested as a harley het flame, for example. they’re pretty much sold by what they look like when fired up. |

through very selective breeding you can get more desierable traits to show in babies but its never a guarenteed thing |
