 Morph Question

Hey Sorry to bother everyone again, but I had a question that I am unable to find any info on. I was wondering how exactly morphs are created in crested geckos... I know quite a bit from researching boas and ball pythons, but is it the same in Crested Geckos? For example If you breed a harlequin with a flame would you get harlequins het for flame or would it be something like you would get half harley’s half flames, or would you kinda get like a hybrid of like a flame and a harley? I am just curious because I am considering pairing up my female Harley but i wanted to know what would happen if I paired her up with a male Flame or Red Tiger, mainly becuase I love that morph and if i decided against breeding i would still have the morph i wanted regardless, and they would just be house seperately.

Thanks for any info,

Rob

 Morph Question

I could be wrong, but from what i’ve gathered from other crestie owners so far is that cresties genetics dont really work the same as other reptiles.

i think for the most part its a surprise. i’ve seen pictures of babies that look nothing like their parents, or only have similar coloring, or are almost identical. i asked my biology professor what she thought the reason for this might be, and she thought that maybe the geckos carry numerous types of patterns in their genes and are therefor more of a grab bag. that’s just her theory though.

i do know that dalmatian spotting is supposed to be a heritable trait, and i think the pin striping might be, but i’d have to look into that.

so basically, i don’t think you can classify a crested as a harley het flame, for example. they’re pretty much sold by what they look like when fired up.

 Morph Question

yeah crestie genetics are nothing like other reptiles.... ive had tiger babies hatch out from flame/harley parents.. ive had tons of dalmation spots show up when the parents had none what so ever..

through very selective breeding you can get more desierable traits to show in babies but its never a guarenteed thing
