howdy whizzyman!

they sell ggd(gargoyle gecko diet) at petsmart or petco. follow the instructions on the back of the bottle and serve in a dish every night. with this, you do not have to supplement at all with powdered calcium, etc. give crickets 1-2 times a week to get him active.

you don’t need any lighting. temps. have to be 70-80 i believe with the night temp no lower than 65. humidity needs to be higher than 60.

supplies for a cheap way: paper towels for a substrate
sticks, rocks from you backyard(be sure to disinfect)
plants from the dollar store
2 tupperware lids for water and food
ggd
crickets
calcium
somewhat large tupperware container to keep the crickets in
left over food scraps to feed the crickets
thermometer and hydrometer from walmart (digital)
lamp from walmart (for photo-period)
household light bulb
you allready have a tank and i’m assuming a lid too
squirt bottle
gecko

if the gecko is $100, than the whole setup would not be more than $150. it will look ugly, but it will get the job done and leave you with a healthy gecko.

What? Where did you hear that? Gargoyle geckos are not diurnal, they are nocturnal. No nocturnal gecko "needs" UV light, so it is not necessary. It won’t hurt, however, so thats your choice.

... hardly the best source of information. They’re not diurnal. For any Rhacodactylus, I’d suggest getting the book Rhacodactylus by Repashy, Fast, and de Vosjoli, or going to either www.genevievesgeckos.com, www.forums.repashy.com, or www.pangea reptile.com. All are superb, reputable sources of information.

 To UVB or not to UVB?

Yeah, I also heard UVB is not required from several sources for Garg’s and Cresteds (which I was considering getting) but the gal that sold me mine said there is a bit of debate going about whether UVB is really needed. Of course it doesn’t hurt. She only had one Crested and used it--another Petco employee had 4 Cresteds and did not use it.

Another great way to save money is try to get your supplies from Craigslist or local garage sales. I found my 10 gallon critter care tank from a garage sale and am trying to locate a larger one off Craigslist. Often people are giving their tanks away for free.
