They can be a bit nippy though...they tend to be "tail biters"...

Never heard that anywhere - where’d you get that info? Last I checked, they were Rhacodactylus auriculatus (not cillatus - cilliatus is the sp. for cresties). Can’t find anything anywhere on them being changed to Bavayia...

Anyway, they’re different species, same island, and to my knowledge, same genus. Coloration is differnt, likely have slightly different niches. Gargoyles don’t have the "eyelashes" cresties are famous for.

Not sure about temperment. My garg is a bit skittish, whereas my friend’s crestie is much less so. But that’s a pretty minimal sample size, so may be only personality. Mine’s never bitten me, but he’s still little (about 2" SVL). And quite tame compared to the tokay (named Jezebel, for good reason) I have at work!

auriculatus (especially females) are high strung. Once females get gravid, stay out of their way, they can get quite grumpy. Yes, they are more figidity than cilliatus but I think they are so much cuter than cilliatus. I definitely will start breeding auriculatus in the future. AS for taxonic classification change?????? what? when was that? Ive never even heard about that. I dont think anything happened
