Sade, my goldie, decided to stop eating for two weeks. You’d immediately think, "Oh no! Sade should go see the vet!" But we all should know that goldies aren’t as simple as that. I was giving him supers for a while to the point that he got a little fat, so two weeks ago swapped from supers to mealies. He wouldn’t buy it. So I put a heaping load in the cup and still couldn’t tell if he was going for it. Finally tonight I decided to grab the sucker and make him eat at least three, specially the one that pupated. Let me remind you if you don’t know Sade (from previous threads of mine) that he’s a smart bugger. Probably the smartest gecko in my collection. Catching him is not as simple as ’mist mist, catch’. He pulls out all the stops and then some. This is basically what he did. I won out eventually and put a mealie in his mouth. He threw it back at me... Then pissed on me to get the point across. I made him bite down on the pupa next and put him back in. He ate that fine and immediately thereafter tried to hide. Here’s the part where it gets good: I grabbed him again for one more try at mealieizing him for the night. And he bit me. This may come off as normal, but Sade rarely bites. He doesn’t like to. He did. When he does bite, those rare times, he aims for a painful area and does some ugly damage. This time he got my knuckle and tore off a decent piece of flesh. I didn’t feel anything and after I gave him the last mealie, I realized I was bleeding heavily. Don’t get me wrong, I would’ve taken a picture to show everyone; however washing it, throwing on antibiotics, and tossing on a hefty bandaide was my top priority. So not only did the experience of catching and making him eat tell me that he wasn’t sick, it’s also that he’s a stubborn prick. Bloody pest should eat the blasted mealies and not be so picky over a small food change. I’m sure he’ll eat them eventually. |
