 Any Advice?

I just got a female goldie. I love her so much, and try to take her out as often as possible. In her cage, I have mulch, a water dish, and a rock with a piece of driftwood mounted to it. I give her 1/2 a dozen large crickets about every week. Sometimes she hides up in the top of the cage. I get up around 7:00 and turn a light on and turn it off usually between 10 to 10:30. Should I add fake plants or anything? Do you have any other advice?Thnx!!!

She needs more than 6 crickets a week, almost guarenteed. they might be able to get by on that in the wild, but theres no reason to make it live on the edge in captivity, right?

plants, I guess aren’t technically REQUIRED, but they make the cage look way nicer in my opinion and geckos always love having a more natural looking habitat. what I use in mine is some bamboo that I hacked down out of the neighbor’s yard, its about 1.5" in diameter and has lots of smaller sprigs of leaves coming off it for more foliage, and the geckos love hiding inside the bamboo. The bottom of it sits in the bottom of the waterfall and it keeps the leaves green. Another plant I have in there is a bromiliad. Those look the coolest, and are really practical cause water gathers in the central flower area and at the base of each leaf, so If i spend the night at a friends house or somethign I dont have to worry about them not getting water for a day, casue theres always some in the bromiliad. I dunno why but they never drink out of the sides of the waterfall)that i’ve seen)

I’d say plants are required for the fact that they make the gecko feel more secure and save in its cage: gives it plent of places to hide. Most goldens don’t want to be out where they can be seen all day, but if there is little to no hiding spots, they’ll sit out where you can see them.
Also, make sure the mulch that you’re using isn’t large enough for the gecko to be able to swallow when attempting to eat food. You can use clean potting soil(no chemicals or additives in it)or something like bed-a-beast.
And yes, your gecko will need more then 6 crickets a week. Make sure that they’re dusted with calcium and that she’s actually eating them!!
