Your gecko looks a bit stressed (either from just moving there or the setup). THe pictures you posted showed no hiding places at all and that’s what he needs right now. Until you can get some plants in there, you should get a small box, like a kleenex box, and put it in there on its side. This will give him a place to hide and feel a bit more secure - it’ll also help him settle in quicker. Also, I don’t see any humidy gauge or thermometer. Do you have those in there out of view?

On the by, you can get 6ft of fake pothos vine at a nearby hobbyshop for three dollars. So if cost is ever an issue with getting the setup set up, go to a hobby shop. Just be sure to rinse it off before adding it to the tank.

I’d be weary about moths. Some species of moth are alright, but others can be dangerous to the gecko’s health. Instead, go to a petstore or bait shop and buy crickets, mealworms, or superworms (not giant mealworms). You can also get silkworms and roaches online. Fact, you could breed roaches very easily.

There’s another worry about catching wild insects instead of farmbred and that’s pestacides. What the bug gets into will go into your gecko. So if you have some guy spray your house, your yard is fertilized, or the neighbors do either, you pose that risk. There’s that and diseases the bugs may carry as well.

Anyway, you’d be downright surprised what great cheap stuff the hobby stores have. If you can’t find it, ask someone either specifically for the fake vine or for ’wreath making accessories’.

Forgot to bring up last post, but you also need calcium suppliments. Don’t know if you have any or not, and if you do you can ignore this paragraph, but you’ll need two bottles. One with pure calcium (calcium without D-3 in the ingredients) and vitamins/d-3 calcium. Provided you feed the gecko every other day, you’ll need to dust the insects with the pure calcium 3/4 times a week and the vitamins 1/4. If you don’t, then the gecko will suffer metabolic bone disease where his bones will become like rubber and deform. You need both varieties of calcium because the ingredient D3 helps metabolize the calcium, but too much will lead to D3 toxicity. Complicated, eh?

He looks good (and it is a he if you were ever wondering. Males have the bold golden coloration, as well as two small balls at the base of the tail, while the females are more of an olive brown.)

I’m happy for you that your goldie is eating. Golden geckos are known to stress easily and are considerably stubborn. There are many members who get goldies that don’t eat and try to starve to death from being stubborn. My goldie, when I first got him years ago, wasn’t only refusing to eat, but also had a heaping load of parasites. It was an all-out pain treating it and he took months of forcefeeding before he decided to grab lunch on his own. Now he’s a happy, healthy, frisky guy who will wrestle the wall, stare at me, and randomly peep while I’m working on the computer nearby. Though he’s still stubborn, knocking over his dish of insects if they aren’t the kind he likes (mealworms? MEALWORMS?! Screw your mealworms! Bring me some crickets!)

Oh, to further limit stress, you can cut up a paper bag or cardboard and tape it to three outside walls of the tank. It’ll help him feel more secluded.
