 Sexxing golden geckos

I’m wondering if its possible to get comparisin photos of mail and females. I need help sexing them.

I can’t find any photos for you, but you should be able to sex them if they’re a year or more old. Look at the crotch of the gecko. If its male, there’ll be two small buldges at the base of the tail and a v vent of dots between the legs. If you poke the crotch area, a buldge should come out, which would be the hemipenis. Females don’t have these characteristics. Females are also smaller and an olive brown color while males are golden. Even so, males can stress and turn darker brown to black.

95% of goldies in petstores are male. You’ll know if you get a female because a female is 4 to 8 times more expensive than a male. There are rare occations when a petstore gets a female and sells it for cheap, but it usually never happens. If you got your goldies off a website, you’d know ahead of time what sex they are.

Either way, I highly recommend you keep your goldies seperate in their own 20+ gallon tanks so they don’t up and fight on you. Even females get territorial and there have been cases on this very forum where the female is killed or ’dies under mysterious circumstances.’
