Hello all! Just took a few pics of my goldie Andele, thought I’d share them. He’s a bit stressed at the moment due to moving. I’ve had him for about 6 months. I rescued him from a pet store where he had escaped and been on the run for 9 MONTHS! Every time they thought they had him, he gave them the slip. I see some of you holding your goldies, and I can’t even imagine that! Andele is so fast, he would be (and has been) across the room before I know what happened. Any suggestions as to how to "tame" him a bit?

The people who hold their goldies are holding very stressed ones that wont move due to fear and being worn out. The only time I’ve ever been able to hold my golden gecko was when he was on verge of dieing from parasites. I do have to catch him now and then to clean the tank, but it’s much easier to use a wash cloth, gloves, or a box to limit the stress on the animal. Mine will bite and twist to take something with him, and he has dropped his tail in the past when a severely under-educated petshop owner grabbed him by it on purchase. So no, I don’t recommend you tame down your wild gecko. They are a very good display species and, besides, I’m sure you don’t want him to up and run away at any given notice like you’ve already experienced; because they will run when they want to.

I enjoy watching my goldie roam his large tank, unstressed, hunting around and generally being cute. When the goldies get very content, they peep. It’s awesome on the rare times it does happen and will only happen if you leave the goldie alone and let him do what he wants in the tank.

There was a guy on this forum a long time ago who lost his goldie for over a year and randomly, one day, found it walking on the bathroom wall. He was amazed on how it survived and presumed it lived off the roaches.

I can’t tell the dimensions of your tank, but I don’t see anything up high for him to climb on. The tank should be 75% covered in stuff to roam around (like sticks and vines).
