My golden gecko wont move If all you could afford for the gecko was a 5 gallon tank, you should honestly give him back to the petstore. 20 gallons minimum. We’re talking about a reptile that will grow to be up to a foot long, which means he has no room to go in a tank that small. No species of lizard should go in a 5 gallon tank, in all honesty.
You will also need to pay for a vet visit, which can be fifty or more dollars depending if he has parasites or not. If you cannot, that’s another reason to take it back.
The golden gecko is a display species and not one you should be handling. Their skin can rip easily, they stress easily, and they will bite, defecate, and tail drop to get away from you. They will try to starve to death if stressed, which is obviously what your gecko is since it has no place to hide in a tank that small, you’re poking at it, and its had no time to settle in. For the golden gecko, it may need up to three months to settle in.
The petstore employee lied to you is basically what I’m getting at. You now have a high maintenance gecko in a tank too small and as you’ve stated you don’t have enough money to take care of it. Your best bet is to take it back, get a refund for what you bought, and do more research (2+ months of research and 1 week of setup time before lizard purchase) for some future species of lizard as well as save up to three hundred+ dollars to take care of this future lizard. Leopard geckos are a good place to start.

My golden gecko wont move hey sorry about your gecko. i got one to about march and i had him for 2 1/2 moth before he would eat anything. i had to get some appetite liquid which works great about a few dollars. i gave it to mine about 2 day once a day an he started to eat. crickets he love and wax worm. he still want touch baby food. but if he does that good. need to stick with live food. mine gecko started to get small because he wouldn’t eat. he did a total shedding in twice in one week. i was worried. but that liquid will make him eat. he also has to get used to his habitat which may need to bit larger in the future. at night the love to run around. but there not so much like other lizard there very laid back and just sit there most of the time. my gecko is happy.
