 Sade’s Stressed Out

I came to my golden geckos tank today and noticed that he was almost completely black. For a second there I thought he was dead, but THANKFULLY he bolted across the tank when I look a closer look.

His head’s darker than the rest of his body. So after waiting a few hours to see if he’d calm down, I looked into his mouth to see if anything from last night was plugging up his throat. Nothing.

Here’s an acct of last night, which may be part of why he’s stressed. It was any normal night. I took him out of his tank to hand feed him (not eat our of my hand but open his mouth so I can pop worms in it). He threw one mealie back at me, but gobbled down the rest. 6 total for the day. And I feed him every other day.

Aside from the fact that he Just shed yesterday, which means he was bloody fast and agile beyond all, he pissed on me for the first time in 2 months. When I was syring feeding him, he’d urinate at me all the time. And lemmi tell you, Sade had good aim. But after he got over the parasites and felt loads more comfortible when I put an extension onto the tank he stopped.

When I caught him to check in his throat today he pissed on me again. Like he was waiting for me with a bladderfull =P


Anyway, what would stress him out so much all of a sudden? This seriously wasn’t ’camoflague’ like we thought about in the last ’why goldens go dark’ thread. And if something happened to spaz him out, I wanna know what.


Other details about the tank. It’s on my computer desk, covered on three sides with paperbag to help him feel secure, I finished off my bag of JungleMix earlier this week for substrate (on papertowel). He has three or four hiding places, a shallow pool, water cup, loads of sticks up high and a large log down low to climb on/hide around. Since my oldest cat went downstairs for the summer, no cat has come into contact with the tank. And my home-work hours are 11 pm til 5 in the morning. So he’s active while I’m either on the comp or at the drawing board.

Recently, aside from the jungle mix, I put a small pot to grow plants in the tank. But Sade doens’t go into it at all. the soil in the pot is safe for lizards.


Anyway, any idea what could’ve freaked him out so much all of a sudden? Even if it’s something small, I’d like to know what ^^`

I hand feed him because he’s stubborn and wont eat the food if I just leave it in the tank. Fact, he’d starve himself to death if given the chance. I heard someone else in this place had to forcefeed/handfeed their goldie for a year before they ate on their own. For now I’m waiting for Sade to eat on His own. But I’m not going to starve him =P

when he first had parasites back in January, he refused to open his mouth more or less eat food. I had to syring feed him catfood gravy and babyfood for a month or three before he finally opened his mouth to accept stuff like mealies and crix. Bloody sucker sealed his mouth shut when I had to give him his meds.

I sleep from 5 am to 12 or 1 in the afternoon... I do work at home because I’m a fulltime artist and... um... I get my best inspiration when the sun is down, honestly. ^^`

Sade’s less stressed, but he’s been going on and off the last 2 days. I still don’t know what’s stressing him out so much.

22, and I’m a professional freelance artist. I usually do anthropomorphs (furries), dragons, and mythological stuff. Then I’ll occationally do pictures for cardgames and t-shirt ideas. Currently I’m planning out a comic to sell at the next MotorCityComic convention.

Geckos are delicate. If I open my bedroom door too fast my guys get stressed too. I’m sure it was nothing.

Nah, the michigan economy is killing me right now. I’d have to make 1600 to 2500 a month in order to live alone. So currently I’m crashing with the folks. Give or take a year and I’ll be out of here again, though. Worse comes to worse I’ll move to Wisconson or some other cheaper State. If I don’t find a friend to move in with before that.

I just don’t wanna stress Sade out too much. He’s usually alright. Just the few days ago when he was really stressed for some reason. And I know he’s beyond stressed when he pisses on me when I pick him up. Felt like I achieved something when he stopped doing that.

That would happen to Geico, he’d sit under his stump for days, and he’d turn dark black.
Then I took the stump away, and he had nothing that was pitch black inside, and he returned to normal.
Nothing medical.
