 Breeding.

Well, I’ve got a couple of questions about breeding.

I’ve got a normal male that is 3 years old and is a great leo. I’m thinking of breeding in 2010 so that I have the time to keep on doing my research about breeding and what not. I currently have an old set of drawers that I will be converting into tanks for leo’s or other reptiles i may get on the way. A couple of questions is I’ve seen 2 female leo’s in my local pet store and ones a blizzard and the other a jungle I think. If I breed these to my male normal does anyone know what morphs I would get? And roughly how many eggs does 1 female produce?

Thanks,
Mike.

 Breeding.

females produce about 16-20 eggs, first time females produce alot of slugs or just not as many eggs.

I’ve still studying up on genetics with breeding and stuff but ill help you out, if im wrong im sure someone will correct me.

normal x blizzard = normal het blizzard
breed the babies back to each other and you will get blizzards. maybe blazing blizzards?
normal x jungle = normals & normal het jungle.
from what i read a lot of times, jungle morph doesn’t go past the first generation, breeding the babies back to each other you’ll get a 25% chance of jungles?

and again im not good with genetics.

Ok thanks for that, do you know if they will be 100% het. blizzard or just 50%?

Hard to say you need to breed them a few times. You find some great books out there about this stuff just don’t know the names. I’m pretty sure you have to breed them. I’m not so sure never got this really. I know what makes a het but not sure about anything else really.

i believe 50%, i think only way to get 100% het is if you breed

normal het blizzard x normal het blizzard = 50% blizzard, 50% normal 100% het for blizzard ?

again im not positive.

haha. Ok this kinda cleared some stuff up, I’ve just ordered a couple of breeding books and will get them soon, also I’m picking up some materials later on to start on my set of drawers to turn them into 10 tanks.

Racks do the job. Hey, if anyone would be willing to give a incubator they think would work, let me know we are going to try another one, my dad has them laying around for some reason and this one has worked for us. What my dad and I want to do is put them in the garage and put them near natural light, so they get the natural amount of light. My utility room as I said is pitch black and I guess that could be the problem.

 Breeding.

Hey there. Breeding normal to a blizzard will give you all normals 100% het bliz.
Breed the het babies to the blizzard parent and you will get 50% blizzards and the rest will be normal 100% het blizzards. (blazing blizzard requires an albino gene)
Ok if you decide to breed the sibling 100% het blizzards, you will get 25% blizzards, and the rest will be 66%het blizzard.
I suggest getting a dom or co-dom morph to work with on your first season like a mack or mack super snow. Maybe even an enigma.
Feel free to ask more question and ill try to clear things up for you. Books become outdated and online info is much better and more recent.

 Breeding.

Well, I’ve wanted a mack snow for a while and i’ve seen a CB 09 female on a website I order from, I’m thinking of ordering one and breeding that one instead of the blizzard, Breeding in 2010 will give me time to get the little one up to size and a healthy weight to breed.

If I breed my normal to a mack snow will I get all normals, 100% het. for mack snow then? and then if I breed the babies together or the baby with the parent I will get some mack snow babies out of the clutch?

 Breeding.

Nope :)
The reason I suggested the snow gene is because its a co-dom morph. Just think of snow as a het for a super snow. Half the babies will come out snow and the rest are normals. What you will want to do is breed the snow siblings or a snow baby to the snow parent to make super snows.
Snows are a very interesting morph. Mixed with any morph and produce very nice stuff. The super snow in my opinion is the best morph to work with.
Overall my favorite morph.
