I’ve never heard of anyone doing this. So i wouldn’t know, My guess would be it’s not that good of a laying substrate. Why don’t you just use coco fiber or sphagnum moss.

I only use vermiculite or perlite they have worked the best for me. Probably more so vermiculite.

definitely not. paper towels fluctuate to quickly and too much in the moisture they can contain. either you’d have to be in there re wetting the towels every 30 minutes so they didn’t dry out, or you’d have to soak them with so much water that the eggs would get moldy.

just get some hatchrite or other incubation substrate from lllreptile or somewhere similar.

As I recall he is from Ontario, Canada. The place is in the US and most stores here wont get it shipped over because by the time the pay shipping they have to charge a rediculous price or they will be losing money. Although Hatch Rite is a good product he most likely wont be able to buy it.

Im a little confused as the title for the post is

Yet ,some of you reccomend he use hatchrite(perilite) which is a "incubation medium". While perilite is good for incubation I personally have never heard of anyone using it in a laying chamber. Most use moss, coconut coir, vermiculite or a combo of them.

For Laying:
I use a mix of 50/50 vermiculite and coconut coir ( the expanding brick kind).
For Incubation:
I use a mix of 50/50 vermiculite and perilite.

Happy Herping

give it a little time. if there are eggs in there you’ll see them if you can get a view of her tummy and shine a light over her back.

Sorry about that I didn’t know. Anyways for egg laying I use 100% vermiculite. For hatching I still use just vermiculite.

no problem, T man lol. i never knew the light thing worked. i was thinking of bending her slightly back, but the light is much more safer. i was scared i was gonna crack something in her lol. ok, so vermiculite.

i guess i totally missed that you were asking about laying substrate lol

personally, i like sphagnum moss for laying purposes, or a moss orchid bark mixture. i tried vermiculite in the lay boxes once, but i found a little in their poop so i stopped using it as i was worried about them ingesting it.

congrats! good luck with your new momma!
