Weight differences... Ok, so I know all animals geckos included are kinda like us in the sense that they gain weight lose weight gain weight etc. Anyway, I got a new scale on the way so I dont wana put much faith in my old one since its a small jewelery scale and it’s hard to balance a bowl on it let alone a bowl with a gecko in it. Anyway like I was saying... I’m not going to put much faith in this since its a bad scale to use but my one girl Lizzy (Normal Tangerine) weighed about 41 - 42g when I got her and my other gal Samantha (SHTCTB) weight about 42g when I got her. The weights just mentioned are what was given to me by the breeder about a week or less before they shipped. Well, sicne I dont have my new scale yet I decided to try and do the best I could with the jewelry scale I have now... and this is about is good as I could get it with the bowls weight zero’d out.
Lizzy - 39.1
Samantha - 54.2
Now those weights were just taken today and like I said I dont put much faith in the scale because its a jewelry scale but it has to have some accuracy. Anyway I can definately tell Sam’s grown a good bit because thats to much of a difference for the scale to be that way off so I’m not concerned with her. But if you look at Lizzy’s weight she seems to have dropped about 2g. Now I always keep a good eye on my gals temps are right foos always available and switched out daily for fresh food. Anyway should I be concened about a small weight loss like that ?
Also, I know all geckos dont grow at the same rate and some gain weight quicker than others and some dont gain weight at all for a month or so. I know its all gecko specific, I just wana make sure I’m doin right by my girls. Anyway like I said I dont put much faith in my current scale but should I be concerned right now ?

Weight differences... Just scanned this, but this is what I use to track their weights. This is the first time I’ve weighed them since I got them so theres not to much data. If you guys remember a few posts ago I kept sayin I wanted to leave em alone for a month or so to kinda settle in before I started messing with them to much. I made a weight sheet for both of my girls, I used excel to do it.

Weight differences... Has she been eating? Try offering her different food like if your are feeding mealworms try a cricket or two for her. Does she have any eggs inside her or is she ovulating? You can see by looking at her belly. If you really want to make her gain some weight and she isn’t eating the crickets or mealworms buy a few wax worms and give them to her. Don’t let the other gecko eat the wax worms (they are like candy for geckos). At times I will hold the gecko and put a worm in her mouth. If you press the side of their mouth the will open their mouth and then put the worm in. Let me know how she is doing in a few weeks. Oh and sometimes scales are very different. I weighed one gecko at my house before a reptile show and he weighed 75 grams...I then weighed him a hour later at the show on another breeders scale and he weighed 73 grams.

Weight differences... Well the scale thing is why I said I dont put much faith in the one I got now. She is eating and they both know where rthe water is. As for feeding, I do what you were doin before I got them. I leave a bowl of mealies at all times in the tank so they eat when they feel the need to and I just witch em out every day. As for egg bound, I looked and didnt see anything and I doubt that would be possible anyway seeing as the only two reptiles in my house are the two girls I got from ya... But I do know they can still produce eggs without males all be it rare when they do.
I probably wont get my new scale til sometime early next week because payment for it is going out today. Anyway, with that said I wont be able ot get a more accurate weight until wednesday of next week. But ever since my girls arrived here I’ve done nothin but good by them. Like I was also sayin in the original post, I know they lose and gain weight like we do and 2g probably isnt much to worry about I just wanted to ask. BTW welcome to the site Andrew ;-)

Weight differences... Well, I went out and bought a new Kritter Keeper today, a large one that I could use for feeding crickets. Liz, my normal Tangerine the one I was kinda concerned about in the original post chowed down on 5 decently sized crickets today. It was kinda funny because when I put her in the KK and she caught them in the corner of her eye she moved towards them raised her tail a bit and shook it. Anyway, I figured since Samantha my SHTCTB is the one whos doing great I’ll leave her be and let her continue eating the mealies and just work with Liz one on one with crickets til her weight gets up. Anyway I jsut wanted to share the good news with everyone that Liz chowed down on some crickets today. As for the new scale I should have that by next week. As for right now I’m just proud that my girl Liz ate 5 decently sized crickets today. Right now her weights not bad and shes still got a GOOD fat deposit in her tail so the weight thing isnt something I was to worried about, just a little concerned about it.

Weight differences... Well, Liz ate 4 more crix today. I think me being concerned was a good thing but not really needed. Shes eating like a champ. I think her problem was that she didnt take to the old food / worm bowl that I had. Hopefully once my two girls get settled in to the new setup they will both find the new food bowl (glass ashtray) and take to it better then the old bowl. Also, I say new setup because I re-arranged everything yesterday and I know when you move things around geckos get funny for a few days.
Once I get my new scale in the mail I will give weekly updates to this post on Liz’s weight.
