Is there a way to help solidify loose poops without having to take her to the vet? Honestly, normally it wouldn’t be a problem, but we don’t even have gas money this week ... I don’t want her to just live with it for a week til I get more money ... Any ideas? Dot’s already lost some weight, it’s probably parasites, I know, but I can’t go get meds right now, so any advice for the meantime?

it cost twenty dollars to get a fecal test and some meds. This is provided you ask specifically for a fecal test only and not the full checkup.

If the crap isn’t solid, then it’s more than likely pinworms. However since I can’t see your leo’s crap under a microscope, I can’t say this definitely; it could be different parasites or something else entirely. If it IS pinworms, the leo will be fine for another week. But don’t wait forever. You can schedule the vet now and go in a week from now when you get paid or borrow some money from a friend.

Vet confused me, but he gave her Flagyl. Said something about protozoans. I guess it’s not as important for me to understand her sickness as it is to cure it. She had her first dose yesterday ...

Any update on your little one,Hehoo? How’s she doing now? I’m battling parasites with mine right now too...they’re going in on Monday for their first treatment (Victor FINALLY pooped, so I was able to drop off a sample yesterday to get it checked). The vet is going to do it, because it involves inserting a stomach tube and administering the medicine that way....no thanks! I’ll pay him to do it.

Keep us posted on how she’s doing!

I think she’s doing a little better, though it’s difficult to tell, especially since her activity and attitude never changed. I can only go by her tail’s plumpness, which is fluctuating but doing good today, and her poops. Those do seem to be getting better, at least darker, and the stain around on the paper towel is getting smaller, so I believe that indicates she’s absorbing more nurients. The flagyl is checken flavored, dunno why, she’s not a meat eater, and she does NOT like it, but she’s a sweetheart and takes it like a good girl. Hope yours get better man, poor babies ... I feel so bad ...

Day 8, the final day of medication ... Dot’s tummy and poops appear MUCh better, and she’s eating silkies like mad. Her tail is still thin and wrinkled, but the vet says that should take about a month to get back to normal. So now I try discontinuing the Flagyl and hope it’s ok.

=] That’s good to read.

I don’t remember if I warned you, but some medications will make a leo thinner or make their appetite fluctuate. I had to deworm a severely parasitized gecko (not a leo) a few years back and the medication he was given made his weight drop from thin to emaciated in very little time, then back to a better weight again at the end of the treatment.

Good luck getting her weight back up.
