For those who want to give their gecko a larger cage but dont have enough money:

If your gecko is stuck with a 10 gallon tank because you can’t afford a brand new 20 long, I’d highly suggest using a plastic tub.

Sterilite 90 qt storage bozes are almost exactly the same amount of floor space as a 20 gallon long. It is only $11 at Walmart.

The only thing I need to caution is that your UTH should be on a thermostat or dimmer switch so it does not get too hot. No, it will not melt the plastic, but heat goes through the plastic easier than glass.

Here’s some pics of how I set mine up:

Another option is a 116 qt tub. These are about $19 at Target. They offer roughly 17X34" of floorspace. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is raised quite a bit in the middle. But other than that it’s great.

Oh and another thing, I don’t have pics with the dig. thermometers in the cage, but one is definately needed, without question.
Here is a very basic 116 qt tub. You can spice things up a bit more than I have lol.

I’m sure your not suffocating your geckos lol, but where are the air holes? Or do you just leave the top off like that?

I put the top on but leave a gap about 3/4 of the length of the tub. It’s been working for me and Luna’s getting plenty of ventilation.

umm...

this is the basic care, just because its not glass doesn’t mean its not sanitary, i know reflex takes great care of his geckos, and he has everything that gecko needs in there.

Thanks for the support. Lol I could name a few great people on here, Holly and Ed(Shutterstud06) just to name a couple. (oh and just to let you all know, I am female :) totally don’t blame you for the mix up it’s my fault LOL)

This post was not a point of not being able to afford your animals. But I myself have been in the situation where they were well taken care of and could afford them, but were living in a 10 gallon tank and I wanted to do more for them without having to spend $40 on a 20 long tank for each of them (totalling about 160 minus the 29 gallon tank I already had for my two girls), or possibly find one online that I’d not only have to pay and drive quite a distance for - but spend a lot of time sanitizing with bleach/water, washing, and sitting to air out. So, I decided to pass on the idea.

Underneath the tub I have a 11"X 17" Exo_Terra Desert UTH.

Squee got sick of the trolls and immature people that used to be on here pretty consistantly. Of course there are some still, but it used to be really bad, so, she left. She still hangs out on the crested forum a little, and I see a couple posts here every once in awhile.

For those who want to give their gecko a larger cage but don’t have enough money:

Another point with tubs is that not only are they cheaper, but many people with multiple geckos prefer them over tanks. There are many reasons for tubs being most preferred, like being lightweight. A light tub that is easy to move around is easy to put in the bathtub or porch to wash without spending all your energy trying to haul a big hunk of glass. Also easier for pregnant people or people who are unable to lift much. Another reason is that it reduces stress because it’s not crystal clear so they do not have to see out at all the activity and big things around them - good for nervous and easily stressed animals. It also holds heat well. Just to name a few.

I’ve actually been here under a couple more usernames - since 2001. I believe I was under something like reptilequeen or bomo something or other. I had forgotten my accounts when I quit RZ for awhile a couple times... ugh it was annoying, I had to go through withdrawals lol!
