 Crisis!!

so as all of you may know, Blaze my leo has gone to the vet for worm meds, and it has been almost 2 weeks on the drugs. and i was thinking, oh no it is almost winter, dont leos stop eating? so i went in to my teachers room for advise (that is where blazehad been living, in the "hospital room") and she was running around the room like crazy (the teacher) and i saw ANTS!!!!!!!!
EVERY WHERE they ate all the 150+ crickets, some of our breeding mealy beetles, some larva and they got in to all 10 animal cages (exsept the corn snake’s) i was so scared my lil baby was guna be dead and i saw only a few on him. i brushed him off and cleaned his cage. then i weied him ( i feed him about 3 crix a day a a waxie) and he weigh 4.15 GRAMS!!
i duno what i am guna do. now he is very skinner, but he is active, bright colors, and has a apitite(as well as taking his meds). so what if he stops eatnig? will he be tricked if i raise the temps? for the ant stuff we ar keeping all the animals at her apt. and blaze is with me. (the ant came in cause we were doing a frosting lab.... NEVER again for sure!) I have some crix at home i managed to save as well as 1 mealworms and some waxies....
so thank you, and sorry for the long post.
Thank you,
Sydney

Depends on the age of the leo. Leos over 2 years of age may go into a slight torpor, but most don’t stop eating completely and it’s usually triggered by turning your lights off earlier at night. As far as I know, your leo is younger than that.

Also, feed more than three crickets a day. Move up to 5, then 7. As many as the leo can hold. If you want the leo to gain the weight back, feed it more. And by this I don’t mean waxworms, which you should only be giving once or twice a week.

Kelli is right. As long as your temps and light exposure times stay consistent, there should be no problem. None of my leo’s go off food during the winter, at least not drastically.

If this leo is not eating, and has not been eating, I would try giving it some acidopholus to regain its gut bacteria. This may kick start his appetite. You may also try an appetite stimulator available at most pet stores. But he should be eating more than those few mealworms. Give him as much as he will eat in one sitting. The key to regaining leo weight is feeding them more often whatever they can eat.

ok, i only feed him a few cause he will barf if i give him any morr than 4 things,.... in a DAY. so i try to ratio between crix, mealies, and waxworms. cause he is just TOO skinny. only 4.23 grams today. and he is 3 months old.... and i have had him for about 2.5 months (ya i no petco are idiots) but the places that sell crix near me either dont have the right size or are filthy. so i will give him some waxies for this weekend and wait til monday to give him crix. (cause we are ordring from a really good website, also some silworms, roaches, and crix) so i will try to tough it out this week end, also i have some super worms to feed in half...
Thank you

Don’t feed superworms to a leo under a year old. They are far too big for a leo that size.

A three month old leo should be small. At that age, their belly should theoretically be bigger than their tail.

And I’m serious about the waxworms. They provide no nutrition to your lizard. Just lard. If you feed too many waxworms over too long a period, you can mess up the leo’s liver.

Stick with mealworms, crix, and silkies. If you can’t find a petco that sells small crix, go to a Petsmart - which should always have some in stock.

huh.... never know that.
i am just scared of feeding crix from a petstore cause they might have worms, whitch would make things worse. ima get silkies today but im ordering them and the dont ship on thurs and fridays, so i have to wait till monday to feed him. what about roaches for him?

 Crisis!!

Any bug can give your leo worms. It happens sometimes. It’s an unavoidable sort of thing. So feeding crix is still fine.

The illness caused by feeding too many waxworms (or pinkies) is called Fatty Liver Disease. It’s from obesity, since you’d be giving your leo too many cupcakes for it to be healthy. That’s why it’s important to only feed a limited amount per week, such as 3 if the leo is emaciated.

The roaches need to be no wider than the width between the leo’s eyes. Same with crix. Mealies are fine all around. Otherwise the leo can choke or have trouble digesting it. Supers are too wide to be eaten, too thick, so should only be given to adults.

The pictures I saw in your profile of a young leo look like a healthy leo. Can you take any updated pictures? Only adults have large, plump, ridiculously huge tails. The young ones have a tail either the size of or smaller than the belly.

both Roaches and silkies are extremely nutritious. And it’s okay to keep Waxworms in the diet, just feed with with discretion.

The leo’s main body looks fine in the pic, though yes, the tail is a bit thin. It’s not something that’s going to instantly poof out, so keep working at it. So long as the leo holds food, has the proper vitamin and calcium supplements, and has an appetite, you should be optimistic. You said he was gaining weight, right? That’s a good thing. Keep it up!

a baby can weigh anywhere from 1 to 3 grams at hatching, depending on the geckos parents and lineage.

do you weight him at the same time during the day?

their weight fluctuates some throughout the day. if you weighed yourself everyday(especially if you weighed at different times) you would notice a difference of a few pounds

depending on if he pooped recently or has food in him it can make a difference

since mealworms are harder to digest i would just give up on those for now so you dont have to worry about him throwing them up which is kind of concerning

what are your temps?

like kelli said just make sure the roaches/crickets are no larger than the space between the eyes

If its any help I had some ants earlier this year and I used boric acid and sugar and water in little cups around the house where they came. They left that day and NEVER came back. It really works well. They can carry parasites and such and harm your feeders therefore harming your animals. Good luck with your little guy.
