Trying to guess the sex of my gecko’s
I am wanting to figure out what sex my gecko’s are. I know to look near the vent for two bumps if male and one if female"or none if female". I have been looking and can not figure it out... does anyone have a picture to show me. I am going to try and get a pic of my three and post them, but in the mean time if someone can assist me with a photo it would be appreciated. When you feed your leo mealworms... dod you leave them in the bowl all day for them or just put them in at night. Do you put anything in the bowl for the worms to eat... leos do not eat salad so is a piece of carrot ok? Thanks for your help |

I put a bowl of mealworms in at the same time every evening and it’s fine. If you have a bowl they can’t crawl out of you should be able to leave them in there all the time. But the worms crawling around with my leos is something I don’t like. |

Thanks, I will check the link. I work shifts and that makes it difficult all the time to keep a regular schedule. When I leave in the afternoon I put in a bowl or at night when I go for the overnight shift. I hear of people leaving them in all day long. I put mine in a bowl as well... I do not like them crawling around either. Do they need food while in the bowl? |

I don’t put food in the bowls for the worms mainly because there aren’t many that sit there long enough to die. I would imagine putting food in there for the worms would get a little messy. The only reason I feed some of the leos at the same time is because some have a dish that resembles a hollowed out rock, the worms can climb out of it. But, I don’t worry about the worms that are put in the ceramic bowls, they can’t climb out of those. Therefore, I don’t remove it when they’re done eating. So, I guess whichever way you want to do it would work. I’ve just heard horror stories of worms that roamed with leos. LOL |

I always put the worms (kept in a bowl) in the cage at night and then switch them out the next night. You don’t want to just leave the worms in the cage longer than that because they need to be gut loaded again in order to maintain their nutritious value. My son’s teacher is a major herp keeper (she has about 20 reptiles in her class) and she always places a sweet potato cube, large enough that the leo’s can’t eat it, in the bowl with the worms. She has been doing this for years without any incident. Holly |

Ya I am new sort of. I am a new owner of leo’s and I am trying to do things right. I feed them crix every day... about 30 for three leo’s, plus I give them a bowl of mealworms. I try to give them a few silkworms as well and wax or butter worms as a treat. I am still trying to figure out how much to feed them and how often. I am always open to any advise or idea when it come to the health and welfare of all my kids |

Thanks for the info. I usually put some carrot in the dish... a piece big enough they can not eat it. I did not think of the re-gutloading of the food the next day. I will remember to take them out in the morning and return them to their feeder spot until the next night. Mike |

I have tried to find the V shaped pores and am having trouble. They all look the same. I think the male is a month or so younger than the two females but I can not remember. One is smaller than the other two and all the undersides look the same right now. I like the link given by Seahorse... it shows a great picture of the male and female. Thanks for the advise |
