 I need to know this!

I have been ripping my hair out (not really) worried about
my little leos!!!!

Non of them are giant or super giant, I am going to strait out say
there first 2 years were not fun for them, I was a horrible leopard gecko
owner, I fed them all like 5 mealworms not dusted once a week
and never a cricket or anything new... I was so busy with myself
I forgot my babies, i’m lucky my dragon lived, and the leos were
probably always sick because I never checked on them and all
3 of them lived in a 20gal.

So now they are my babies, and I am so into them and giving them
proper care I made a website of it! I follow the ’Weekly Care’ page
very strictly and I never use waxworms unless i’m beefing them up,
here is the link to the site I rote: Happy Reptiles.

The reason i’m worried is they are all tiny! Carrot is my largest girl at
35ish grams, them Penny, the poor sweetheart came back from crypto,
digestive system failure, anorexia, and eye problems, weighs in at 23g,
and hershey is still sick with her bad eye and she weighs 29 grams.

Please respond, no one does, but please do!

 I need to know this!

Even though it is sad to hear about what happened earlier in their life I’m glad your stepping up to the plate now and taking responsibility. Good job!!! Can you post pictures of them?? They might be dwarfed or their growth might have been stunted by their earlier care, or they might be naturally smaller. Post pictures of them along with their current weight and I’ll see what I can do to help you. Hope to hear back soon!!! :)

Ok first Carrot at 34 grams, and could someone tell me whats wrong
with her eye, it looks like shes wearing a contact lens and it’s
always been big. You can’t really see it in the pic, but any ideas?:

Next Penny, she was 14 grams in these pics but now shes a big round
20 grams:

Hershey is 29 grams, but there’s something really wrong with her eye, it’s
big, smiley, and now there is a small bump below her eye that may be a tumor:

They don’t look terribly skinny except Penny. Just beef them up a bit with a few more waxworms in their weekly diet, not too many though. What are their tanks like? What are their lengths?

As i suspected before, hershey has an abcess growing under her eye. Its not fluid filled like a zit that you can pop, its a mass. It will nee to be opened, removed, and cleaned by a vet. It will not go away without being removed (a lot of the time the abcess will return even after being removed and will need opened a second, third ect. time)

If your one leo had crypto and the others were housed with her, it is likely that they all have it.

It looks like there is also something wrong with penny’s nose. A straight on shot would help to see what it is exactly.

Carrot looks like she has something in her eye thats causing bacteria build up and cloudyness. This can lead to a serious infection which can lead to an abcess. A vet will give you eye drops to help clear out any infection and will remove any debris.

I know how expensive vet visits are, but honestly these are things that will not get better on their own (hersheys abcess will not, carrots eye may but it is not likely). If you call, they can tell you the price of a visit and the appx. price of eye drops of abcess removal.

Leah! Thanks, abcess, hmm... I’ll probably take her too the vet, not sure how
soon it will be but I probably will... I think that could be 100s :O Sound sort
of like cancer, will it kill her, or can she be ok with one and it just be a little
problem? Don’t take me wrong I love her but idk about 100s, i’m on a tight
budget, but if it’s gonna kill her or cause lots of pain, i’ll have to make due.

And for Penny, she had some shedding problems and I sort of hurt her by
pulling a bit off her nose, (feel bad), she’ll be fine :)

Carrots eye has almost always looked like that from the time a got her
4 years ago (she actually turned 4 today, 2/1/2012), it does not seem to
bother her, she can see and it’s just like an extra layer, i’ll use some saline,
see if I can fix it.

 I need to know this!

The abcess will be causing your gecko a lot of distress and yes, pain. It is pushing on her eye, sinus cavity, and possibly brain. Most likely this is not a cancerous abcess. When cancer appears as tumors it is typically more than one.

My close friends had one removed from his gecko and it wasnt even $100.

You know my cause is to help, not accuse, and i understand that a lot of the time we dont have the money to take out animals to the vet and pay a rediculous bill, but this should be considered before getting any animal.

Leah

Please take her to the vet, they can check her over and tell you more for around $30 (exam) and they can give you options and prices (if they tell you and the price is too high, you can say no).

 I need to know this!

Didn’t read all the posts, so i don’t know if this has already been stated. First of all...been there done that!!! I know how you feel about putting your animals last...and then it hits you one day...omg!! And you realize your animals are seriously lacking!

Anyway, at one point one of my leos was at that same point...losing weight and wouldn’t gain. Now grant it I was breeding her at the time. So I then took her to an exotic vet in the area and she gave me a good bit of info I needed to know. She said that at first, I needed to separate my male from her because he would continuously stimulate her to breed which draws a lot out of the females. Then she said that if I would’ve brought a stool sample that she could do a fecal to test for intestinal parasites. And even though I’m a vet tech...I NEVER thought of my leos having worms! She said that they will get parasites from their food...meal worms and crickets. And that they should be wormed twice a year.

So I wormed all of my leos and have since then. She also gave me an extra liquid supplement to give her as well. With that she gained all of her weight back. And now I breed more responsibly...making sure my females are wormed and have the right amount of food for making their beautiful babies.

So in other words, I recommend worming them. Hopefully you have a vet in the area that will just sell you the wormer. After getting that info from her, I then just started getting their wormer from the vet I work for. Good luck!
