Leopard geckos, and all reptiles, have an extremely slow metabolism. They can hold food in their systems quite a long time more than mammals, and can live much longer without food. The metabolism and growing rate of hatchlings is faster, but not nearly as fast as people. Then there’s the whole thing about making sure the leo eats everything. Leopard geckos are nocturnal and sleep all day. You’d continually be waking the guy up to eat 3+ meals a day, putting stress on him. He may not want to eat every cricket given to him, which could freak you out. Then you’d have to spend a ton of extra time catching those uneaten crickets. Those are just my thoughts on the matter. I just randomly remembered something. Did you know that some people in India and the Middle East (depending on religion and family) only eat one meal a day, at night, as much as they can in one sitting? They’re all fine and fit. Just saying. It’s fascinating. |
