 Tank heating

hello, im new to the gecko community and i just got 2 leos they are very healthy looking but i just cant seem to get the temp in the tank up to the optimal 31.C for day time temp without having the heat in the room turned up. I was reaching a constant day temp of 29.1-29.8. I have an under tank heating mat that is approx 1/3 the size of the tank and a 5.0 uvb 13 watt lamp (i know the uvb doesnt matter and that they gather their heat from their bellies) but would a stronger watt bulb possibly be a solution to this issue? Also, i got them 2 days ago and they havent eaten anything yet, is this just stress from the move and i should just be patient?
thanks everyone i look forward to hearing from you...

you really don’t need a uvb, it’s not really doing anything for them besides giving them a sense of day and night. as for the bulb i wouldn’t go any higher then a 75watt (and even that could be a bit much)
i use a 60 watt 6" away from the top of the tank and a UTH the covers about 3/4 of the tank with a dimmer so it doesn’t get to hot.
and they are probably still adjusting to their new home, when i first got my broad headed skink she wouldn’t eat a thing for a week.

UV bulb isn’t necessary, I’d actually take it out. Too much exposure to ultraviolet rays can potentially be deadly for Leopard Geckos.

Are you measuring the air or ground temperature? Honestly the temperature you are getting now from just the UTH is fine, adding a bulb any higher than 50 watts with an UTH would be way too hot for them. If you really want to get a bulb, then I’d go for a 25-50 watt ’night glo’ bulb. You’ll probably have to play around with different watts to get the temperature you are looking for.
