 Help - heat mat overheating

Has anyone had problems with Zoo Med heat mats overheating? My tank is divided in half for 2 Leos. I have 2 mats (same size) on the same outlet and dimmer switch and one is normal & the other is extremely hot to the touch from the underside of tank. I unplugged this heat mat this morning as not to harm my Leo. I originally had Zilla heat mats but they did not stick to the tank after 5 minutes and went with Zoo Med. Can anyone recommend a better brand heat mat? Thanks!!

I’m not a fan of zoomed or zilla mats, lol. If you want to keep using your mat, you can get a dimmer switch to keep the temperature correct. Make sure you’re using an accurate temperature measuring device such as digital thermometer or infrared gun, then keep adjusting the dimmer until it reaches the temperature you need in the tank.

Here’s the one I use, I have 6 of them
Lutron

If you want to try a different under tank heaters, Ultratherm is a great one, very even heat distribution, can be ordered in many different sizes, even as big as 11"x48". It’s still advisable to get a dimmer to control it.
Ultratherm
