 I’ve got a question..

I’ve had my tokay for almost a month now, and don’t know exactly how old she is. She’s a little over 10 inches long now, and as far as I know she’d been well cared for before I got her. Could anyone give me an estimate as to how old you think she is?

 I’ve got a question..

I have another question. Is sand good for my tokay? I’m using it as a substrate and she seems to be fine with it. She doesn’t usually get aggressive with eating crickets, but she does when she’s hunting an anole. I’ve been trying to get some reptibark, but I’m broke at the moment.

Carnifex,
I can’t tell you how old your gecko is, but 10 inches is a pretty deceint size, so probably 2-3 years I would say. As for the sand, it isn’t the best substrate, I would strongly recommend that you switch her over to the bark or bed-a-beast, (the ground coconut husk bedding). I say this because they are a humidity loving reptile. Sand doesn’t really hold humidity. She’d be much happier and healthier on one of the other substrates. And another thing, I’d be careful about offering her anoles, they are ALL wild caught and carry numerous endoparasites that can be passed on to her. Hope this helps.

 I’ve got a question..

I’ve gotten all the anoles from a friend who breeds them. At least that’s what he says. I wasn’t planning on feeding her anymore of them, though. Too expensive. Thanks for you help. I’ll be getting bark as soon as possible. It’s only 8 dollars for a bag that will cover all of my 10 gallon terrarium, but once I get a lid for my 20 gallon, I’m moving her into that one. So I’ll have to buy more..

I think she’s about 2 and a half from what I was told, but they were unsure when they told me. I’d love to know when she was born, though.

 I’ve got a question..

dump out the sand and put papertowel in there. I used to use bark but saw mine swallow some while nabbing a cricket. I freaked and took all the bark out. Papertowel works great, it’s cheap and clean

 I’ve got a question..

Put her in a bigger tank. A 10 gallon is way too small for a tokay that big. You should just get a 29+ gallon as that’s what you’ll need when she’s full grown (which is only a few inches bigger than what she is now).

 I’ve got a question..

I just finished up a 20 gallon tank for her. It’s got reptibark, a jungle vine, plants, a few good hiding places, and it’s humid. alot moreso than the 10 gallon was. it’s still only about 60. I’m trying to get it up, though. I can only get the temperature up to about 80 degrees in there, though. Any tips on getting the humidity up?

 I’ve got a question..

And now I’m really thinking of getting her a hammock. I got her a new plant with big leaves, that are apparently big enough for her to sleep in. She’s been lying in one of the big leaves at the end of the jungle vine since I put her in there and she started moving around. It’s still about an hour or two before she comes out to hunt for food, but I can’t wait to see how she likes the new tank. I’ll be posting pictures of it all soon.

 I’ve got a question..

carnifex,
I’ve never had a problem with bark, except with frogs. I really believe that your’s will be just fine on it. As for the 60% humidity, that’s right where it needs to be. a little higher wouldn’t hurt, but it’s fine there if it won’t go higher. As fr the jungle vines and plants, I would love to see a pic of that. I bet the gecko is quite happy.
