Tokay pics
His enclosure is 40in wide x 2 ft deep x 4 ft tall. We built it out of cheap decking and a couple of cans of great stuff. It’s multi level and if you look closely you can see that we layered it so that we can have a waterfall starting at the very top and it will flow down into every single level all the way down. The bottom left corner under the statue has a sink drain so we can drain the entire thing if need be. Right now we don’t have the water going so each level is full of coco-fiber. We have both fake and 10 live plants as of right now, and we will start removing the fake ones as the real ones grow. The top has two light fixtures mounted, one with a ceramic element and one with a light and with a screen to keep him off of the bulbs, a hinged door all the way across the width on the front so we can open the top and clean, feed, etc. The glass will slide about 8 inches in both direction for cleaning the bottom parts too. Sorry the pics aren’t any better, they either turned out too bright or too blurry, but you can make it out. To see some hunting and eating videos, goto youtube and search "tokay III" and "tokay IV" This is a view from the top looking straight down into the enclosure.
You can see the different levels in these.
And a couple for size reference to show how much room he really has. You also have to keep in mind that these guys will use every nook and cranny they are given. So each one of the different levels act as two places to lay, he will lay underneath them stuck to the underside of the ledges. He’s a pain in the butt to find sometimes, but there is an easy way to find him quickly......................just throw in a handful of crickets, he will show himself ;)

I painted some of the wall with a rubber based paint to help keep it from rotting in the places where it will be most in contact with water. Then sprayed the Great Stuff along the edges of the ledges and to the walls to create other ledges and little caves.
After that was all dry we painted the great stuff with this textured paint from Lowes, to give it more of a rock look to it.
Last steps were painting, polyurethane, and adding plants and substrate. Then mounting the glass and top. Thanks for looking. |
