DEVILS!!! Why are you letting you fingers so close to him. If you don’t want bitten, keep them away and just drop his food into the enclosure.

DEVILS!!! Mine is a bit fiesty, but it’s not like he comes charging at me. They aren’t aggressive, just extremely defensive. They only bite if they feel threatened in some way (like being too close while changing the water) ;)

DEVILS!!! They are probably mistaking your fingers for food. If the only time that you put your hands in there is to feed them, then they will jump for you because they think that you are feeding them. The best advice that i have for you is to persevere. If need be, wear light gloves when you put your hands in the cage, but keep doing so. It’s necessary to put your hands in there to water/clean/feed, and eventually they will get used to you. Don’t give them away. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, tokays are a "look at me" pet, not a "play with me" pet. just get courageous, i promise, they will get used to you. mine were abandoned and really mean when i first got them, but now they are my favorite reptile, and pretty much ignore me when i stick my hands in there with them as long as i don’t mess with them too much. just keep swimming!!

DEVILS!!! My girl is very defensive and probably always will be. I got her as an adult from Petco and the guys working in the reptile section liked testing their reflexes on her. They’d get their gloves on, reach in and grab her around the neck like you would with a snake. She’s calmed down quite a bit, but I’m not expecting her to be tame in any way. Tokay geckos are display animals. I do not have a water dish in with my girl since she was deciding to use it as a toilet. I mist her plants 6 times a day. When I feed her I just toss the crickets in and she goes into a feeding frenzy. Her substrate is paper towels, so it takes very little time to clean the bottom of her tank. When I need to do a full cleaning I put my gloves on, get a towel and pick her up as gently as possible. She chews on the towel, but she’s never latched on.
Just make sure you don’t get your hands too close to him and if he’s close to his water change it after he moves away. It doesn’t matter if you’re reaching for him or not. Every time you put your hands in his cage he thinks you’re trying to get him, so he gets defensive. Wearing gloves wouldn’t hurt either.
