 Help please not eating

hi, I’m new to all this and would be very great full of any help please.
my son was given a Tokay by someone who didn’t want him anymore, we was only given the Tokay and nothing else, Ive put him in an old fish tank, with play sand and clean soil, some sticks for climbing and a cork hide.we,vie had him for about 2 months now and he doest eat unless i force him which isn’t nice for either of us, I’m feeding him meal worms, Ive try ed small crickets and wax worms but wont eat them he keeps spiting them out. since looking on this site i have found out he needs heat so for the last couple of days i have been using my tortoise heat lamp ( a spotlight) will he ever start eating on his own, I’m getting worried now, hes such a lovely little chap.
any help at all i would be very great full.

best thing to do would be to make him eat and then get a poop sample and take it to the vet to be checked for parasites, not eating can be a sign of parasites. did you put the soil over the playsand ? if not you might want to or even chuck it out and get some eco earth in there. Tokays like to be moist so make sure you mist the tank atleast once a day. He’ll probably be a lot happier with heat now. What wattage bulb are you using to heat him?

Ok... If you have sand in there make sure its mixed up with lots of soil. sand for geckos are dangerous for them!! between them eating it and messing up their tummy intestine and drying up their bodies it’ll put them to their death bed..

Make sure he gets a lot of humidly and mist him day and night so he have enough water.. As far as eating you might have to continue to force feed.... mine spit the food out but I keep struggling with one of them until he chows down on it.. It pisses him off but he get the hint that I wont stop til he eat it! haha..

How do you force it?? just drop food in his mouth when he open his mouth or jam it down his throat or what?? there are a few ways you can make a gecko eat and not spit the food out.. keep me posted on your situation!! just send me an email!
