Wealth of information Even though i have never posted any questions before, i have searched through and read many posts on taking care of tokays, their mannerisms and so forth. The wealth of information that everyone has on these beautiful animals is astounding. that being said, i have searched through allmost all of the threads and i do have one or two questions i am hoping can be answered.
first of all i am a new proud father of what i believe to be a male tokay, i believe he is full size now and he is captive bread. The one question i have is that of fecal matter, is it normal for it to have two colors of fecal matter or is chompy sick? i would normally take him straight to the vet but i have suspicions that this is normal, also i made a cave for my little guy and so far he would rather stay in his little cave all day than hang on the glass, was the cave a good or a bad idea?
once again thank you in advance for the abundance of information regarding my chompy :)

Wealth of information what color is the poop? if there is white, that’s okay, becaues they poop and "pee" (urate) at the same time. the urate is the white stuff. unless the poop is really runny and smells really bad i wouldn’t really worry, but with any new animal a fecal test is always a good thing if you aren’t sure. they usually aren’t that expensive, you normally don’t even need to take the animal in, just a fresh sample of poop.
as for the cave. he probably just feels really safe in there. does he have other things to hide behind along the walls, like plants. if not he may not feel same coming out, or he may just be nice a cozy in there. he may also just be coming out at night when you are asleep cause they are nocturnal. sometimes i can catch my girl out when she thinks i’m gone, and as soon as she sees me she hides again, lol.

Wealth of information
yeah one color is white the other looks like a jelly green , now that i think about it i think my fire salamander did the same thing wasn’t positive though. and yes chompy only feels safe coming out of his "cave" when i’m not around , sometimes i can catch him running around stalking crickets thank god he isn’t scared of his new home anymore, he eats like a champ now. i assume that when i upgrade his living space he will be more comfortable hanging around on the glass and such sadly i was only able to afford a ten gallon tank at the time and from what i have read, it is enough for them to live but not enough to be completely content. i will be making a new tank for chompy some time this week, it just so happens that my fathers business deals with glass, so it is just a matter of me visiting his place and making a new home for chompy, i am considering a 4 foot tall enclosure with a width and depth of 2 feet , is that too much? i figure if i make it big enough then some day i can get chompy a female to play with when i am knowledgable enough about the care of these lovely creatures.
thanks for answering my post so promptly :)

Wealth of information just remember with a tank that big you’ll need lots of hiding spots. plants are generally the easiest since tokay are arboreal. otherwise, i think your doing great!

Wealth of information ya he probably thinks the cave is a great idea even if you are unpleased with him hiding. these lizards a cave dwellers anyway or in a lot of cases cabinet dwellers lol( wouldn’t want it to be cabinet, yikes!). but if you put a lot of plants in the tank ,against the tank, they will also hide behind the those and you can still see him stuck on the glass so then you will both be pleased.

Wealth of information i ended up making his living quarters a bit smaller than what i posted before, i figured i would actually have to stand in the thing to clean if it was as huge as i wanted, as it stands , it is about 3 feet tall 2 1/2 feet long and 1 3/4 feet wide, and i decided to give him a little platform half way up where he can hang out as well, i’ll post some pics as soon as i am pleased with how i set up his new home :)
