 Parasites

i really hate to post yet another topic but this one’s important
i’ve only seen my gecko defecate once, and it was runny. that was when i first got her. could that have been from transportation stress?
she’s a bit skinny but she might just be that way from not eating a lot because she’s stressed from me handling her and i’ve had her in a 10 gallon until i could get a hold of a 75 gallon (which hasn’t been set up yet).
i called one vet to see how much, i’ve heard people say it cost 10 dollars for a fecal exam, but this vet said 53 dollars. i’m definitely avoiding paying that if i can (cash is hard for me to come by at the moment) so can anyone help? would treating her for parasites when she doesn’t have them hurt her, could i just give her medicine instead of getting the exam?
the reason i want to rush this is i might be getting a male tokay to go with her into the 75 gallon and i don’t want to infect the new gecko with it too. (naturally, i wouldn’t put them together until i find out the answer though, no worries)

Get the book "Understanding Reptile Parasites" by Rodger J. Klingenberg DVM. It tells you how to medicate and even check for parasites your self. That said I do my own fecal tests and medicate all on my own 90% of the time. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I have a reptile parasite book coming in the mail actually. I’ll check to see if it’s the same one. I don’t know about medication though.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what microscopes would be good to view parasites? How costly are they?

Check out this website drgecko.com..

typically when I get a gecko I always feed them some panacur or fenbendaz its a dewormer that everyone use on all animals.. and I feed it to them once a day for 7 to 12 days depending on their condition.. You can buy the stuff at a farm shop.. You’ll get a large tube that goes for horse and then you’ll have to do the math.. weighting your gecko and how much she needs to use...

If you have anymore qq just let me know!

Good luck!
