 I couldnt resist!

Hello all, new to these parts. I have always loved the way Tokays look and I have always looked into caring for one. So last week I got up with not much thought or intention on buying some animals. Lol. I was surfing through LLLReptile.com and was looking at the geckos. Ofcourse I searched for the Tokays and lo and behold they had some CB babies and I got excited....pulled out the credit card and well you know the rest. Hahaha.

Id like you to meet Baklava(yes like the greek pastry, lmao). He just came in today and he was actually VERY calm, but Im sure he will get fiesty once he settles(but if Im lucky he will stay as he is now, lmao) My friend had also bought one and just informed me it tried to bite him multiple times, lmao.





I apologize for the quality, I didnt spend much time snapping pics as I wanted to get them into the tank. By "them" I mean I ordered 3 other animals, :P A Pink Toe Tarantula, Black Trapdoor Spider and a Pacman Frog..:D

Hahaha awww, haha. Thanks but....

..this morning at around 5AM I checked on all the new animals and noticed my Tookay on the cage floor. So I got nervous and opened the tank. His face was face down in the eco earth I nudged him and he got up, his head was going in circles as if he was really dizzy then he stiffed up as if he had gotten electrocuted then instantly died. His toes curled in and everything. I dont know what happened. It really upset me and totally shocked me.bI dont understand why, or how it happened.

My only guess was he was WAY to young to be shipped out like that. He was a very vey tiny gecko, and I wish he wasnt sent out so young. Im going to call LLL right now and see what they can do.

Just, I feel so bad for the little guy.

Did you have crickets in with him? He might have tried to get a cricket and ingested some of the eco earth and suffocated on it or maybe it got down in him and he got impacted. He was very tiny and you said his face was in the dirt.... This actually happened to me with a baby crested gecko. I never use substrate with baby lizards anymore. I use newspaper. I only add eco earth after they are almost to adult size. That’s a shame, I’m sorry about your little guy. I have a Tokay I raised from a baby and I held him almost every day and now he is tame like a leopard gecko, even my 5 yr old can play with him. I hope you get another one and find out how cool these guys are when tame:) Here is my daughter playing with mine.

Aw thats very cute. :D

Well, I had him for maybe 10 hours. I didnt try any food and I tong feed all my geckos anyways. I wasnt expecting such a tiny gecko, so I had a tank set up for a baby, but not a near hatchling size.

I think it could have been him being so young plus the stress of shipping and a new home. So ill keep you guys updated once I get info back from LLL. I would like another, but Im going to make sure its a desent size.

Yeah, it was quite heart breaking to see a little fella just die in your hands like that. I finally got in touch with LLL and they are going to help me out. I had to do it through email because I was wondering why I always got their answering machine. Well today I found out that California has a 3 hour time difference when I, for some reason, thought it was a 6 hour time difference. Lol.

So Ill hopefully get a call or email tomorrow since Im off from work. Ill keep posted. :D

Well LLL is not sending me a new gecko at all. They are only giving me $20 store credit and if I want another Tokay Ill have to pay shipping(which is $35) so I dont know what to do. This isnt really fair, Im kind of angry that they wont ship out a new animal for me especially since the one they sent died after 6 hours in my house.

Guh, any suggestions?

Yeah, I know. I also got my cricket order in today. 1000 1/2 inch crickets and when they arrived 90% were dead. I dont want to make LLL seem like a bad place, because this isnt my first time ordering from them. All the previous times have been great, hence why I returned to them.

They said the shipping is none refundable, but I made it clear in the email I just sent them that I dont want store credit, or a refund. I just want another gecko to replace the one that was lost. So we will see what will happen. I hope they dont make me pay for shipping this gecko, IF they send another.

Wow that is WAY too small of a tokay to even be shipped..poor guy! Mine were well close to at least a foot, then again I picked them out at a show.
Nice spiders tho! I’m waiting on a cobalt blue!

Sure he was dead?
My young tokay seems to go into a seizure when it gets frightened. He stretches out and his toes curl. Sometimes he flips upside down and looks dead. he’s better after a minute and back to normal. He may have something defective in his head. But i can still see him breathing.

just being bored and browsing threads...ive heard a lot of bad things from LLL. i would make a fuss, then offer to send them back their dead gecko. demand your money back, and buy from a show or adopt. but i would just keep fussing and fussing. i know talking to managemant on the phone can get you places. haha.

good luck and sorry to hear about your little buddy. he was way to small to be shipped and there money hungry morons for doing that to both you and your tokay. but dont give up! tokays are a blast. mine passed a few months ago and i miss her terribly. a rescue and a sweetie. i could kiss her head. she hated men. and she had her moods. never been bitten though she tried twice. lol.

That really sucks!! I been there, so I understand... I ordered one female tokay and 3 velvet geckos.. The velvets were great but that tokay, she looked already dead when I got her.. But as for babies... I wouldnt handle them until they are a few months old. I refused to handle mine until they got about 4 or 5 inches long. and I just would pet them on the head that was it.. Their bodies are soo delecit and fragile they pick up all sorts of germs and stuff you know. Plus they stress soo easily and their bodies arent fully developed.. And with them being shipped off didnt help much either.. So I read from many other post that people are having problems with their geckos and that eco earth!! I wouldn’t use that stuff for my geckos... I use paper towels for a while and then I started off with wood chips from petco.. that works well with my reps. if you want another tokay I suggest you go to a petshow.. check out kingsnake.com they will tell you the next event coming in ur town!!
