 Social tokay?

Hi all!

I’m a proud owner of a 8-10 months tokay pair for a week now. They live in a 40 g (exoterra 24x18x24) with a couple of hides and lots of vegetation in my "laundry room". It’s a corridor-like division with big windows where I keep an aquarium, my washing machine (little further away), and a small refrigerator, in the back of the house.

I need an advice. I don’t want a tame tokay, I like them feisty... I’d just like to have a tokay that won’t run for his life everytime he sees me. I’d like to watch him hunt and do his bussiness like I’m not even there.

What can I do? Should I do my normal life like if they weren’t there (with the usual noise, lights on sometimes, people passing by,...) and expect them to get use to it with time? Or should I try and protect them from light (at night), noise,...

Thanks!

Well you chose the right animal if you want a feisty one lol
Laundry Room with an aquarium tho? Sounds a bit stressful on the aqatics part..
I never even saw my tokays eat in person, just saw the crix were gone and they were fat. Only way I’ve ever seen a tokay eat was with the room light off, his red heat lamp on like usual, and the cage was turned sideways se we could see them. idk about a "social" tokay though

If you want to see them then do your business as usual and eventually they will get used to it and stay out from hiding everytime they see you. Take note though they are nocturnal and are not active during the day. As far as feeding you can get really long feeding tweezers/tongs and hold a cricket, worm or mouse in front of the gecko and they will come out and take it so you can see it eat. For this to work do not put food in the cage, only feed them by the tweezers.
