 The cost of saving a new Friend at a pet shop.
Ok, hopefully i don’t drag this out...concider this for thought... when you enter a pet shop, any one will do. Also before you concider saving a lizard in general, check the conditions of the animals as best as you can..
If most are in good health, then it’s a good safe bet that they keep their animals, best as they can... However, it’s not always the case with most pet shops. For those i won’t save pets from. Not to be heartless or cruel, but to keep them from getting more of the same and mistreating them as well.. I know it’s not a pretty sight seeing one of your favorite animals sufering and eventually dying in a small cage at a pet shop, but it’s best over all if the animal does. 90% of the time the pet shop will not order an animal that noone will buy. So at the cost of "one" you may have saved "hundreds" or even "thousands" of pets from being mistreated.

idk why everyone bad mouths all big chain petshops... just because theres are bad.. someone once told me that petshops dont order there animals once they run out they have a set # and they ship like every 2 weeks or something... well idk if that is the case.. but if you were to buy one it wouldnt make a diference.. anywho not all petshops are bad and its REALLY anoying how on every forum ppl bad mouth petshops because one neer them is bad.... there is only one petshop here i absolutely will not buy from... and its a small local one that is so horible i cant stand it... the only petshops i trust are the petsmart by me and abot 2-3 others

I never bad mouthed any pet shop in particular, or even named one for that matter. This is just an informational letter of what to watch for. I’m thankful that nearly all pet shops in my area all take very good care of their pets, and i wouldn’t hesitate to "adopt" a new friend. As far as when or what a pet shop orders i’m sure it varies from area to area.. this was just an example of how "some" pet shops "think" if it don’t sell, and dies... don’t get any more of them. At any rate this isn’t "bashing" any single or particular pet shop...
3 tokay geckos
1 golden gecko
2 guinea pigs
1 dwarf hampster
2 fat overfed lazy "house cats"
1 super jealous dog
1 snow white dove
1 snow white Parakeet
and i love them all...:)

the way i see it is you have to find a good petshop. i do agree most big chains are not so good, one i hate is petco, but if you find a self owned shop then they more than likley take good care of the animals. like me, i live in a small smiley town in kansas (not for long moving soon) and i go the self owned shop here because i know everyone that works there and am friends with them. i often even go in and help there becuase we all trust each other and all know how to take proper care of the animals in there. and the good thing about finding a self owned shop and knowing the person that owns it is that i can go in there and order whatever i want whenever i want and know that is coming from somewhere good not some nasty farm. so not all petshops are bad you just have to find the far and few between that are good, and get involed with it as much as you can.

I admit I have saved a tokay gecko at a petshop. But the gecko was brought in about 5 months before I bought her. At the time the order for her wsas placed and she had arrived the lady working the pet section of the store was a good person, took very good care of the amimals. But after a month, she quit the job and a new person was hired that did not care at all for the reptiles and would not clean their tanks. The day before the new year I bought her. And frankly, they have not ordered in any more reptiles. And I do not regret giving Mystique a home; she was all skin and bones last year but now she is fat, happy and spoiled. Just like all the other geckos I have.
