Do med. (house) geckos peirce skkin when they bite? are gecko bites very painful? HA! im just curious

i dont have med.s but ive gotten bitten by my leos and cresties, it doesnt hurt much.. feels more or less like a pinch but if they break the skin it stings a bit

When you are bitten, do not remove your finger from the gecko’s mouth. Do not pull away. Else you’ll take a handful of the gecko’s tiny teeth with you. Instead wait for the gecko to let go first.

Bah, depends on the gecko and where they tag you. If the Med gets you on the side of the finger, tip of the finger, side of the hand, or a chunky part like the arm, it wont hurt at all. If you’re tagged on the knuckle, between the fingers, or in one of those juicey parts where a papercut would kill, it’ll sting a little. If the lizard decides to deathroll or twist their head and take something with it, you might, MIGHT, get a lizard hickey. I highly doubt a med gecko would make you bleed, though.

I’m warning you about not pulling your hand from their mouth more for the gecko’s comfort than your own. Can you believe how it must feel to bite something out of defense and it, in return, ripping a large chunk of teeth from your skull? No teeth and they have trouble eating. Can also lead to an absess in the mouth if they loose their teeth harshly enough.

I understand..thanks for your help...btw im sure a little med. gecko bite couldnt hurt much more than a paper cut. and i see what you mean about how that would be terrible for them to have their teeth ripped out when they were trying to defend themselves. Thanks a lot

My 2 yr old was bit by our Angolian? Gecko. It ripped her skin, he bit and let go and took off. Do they inject any poisons when biting? Should I bring her to the hospital? The Gecko to the Vet? Dont’ know what to do Please help. I cleaned and disinfected the wound and kept watch on the gecko. Any ingo would be appreciated. TY JoAnne

give your kid antiobiotics and tie her finger up (since you washed it out already). If your kid’s finger was degloved or something, I’d probably recommend a doctor visit to give stitches. If it’s just a small scratch or cut (or hickey), just watch it and if there’s a sign of infection, visit the doc. The gecko will probably be fine. They aren’t going to drop dead due to defending themselves from predatory human 2 year olds. Only thing I’d worry about is stress from the whole thing. A good way to help a gecko get over stress is to leave it alone and keep it in a dark, secluded, quiet room.

There are only 2 or 3 poisoness lizards on the planet. The KomodoDragon (poison was recently found to be part of the spit.. but it’s still under question), Gila Monster, and Mexican beaded lizard. None of which can be kept as pets.
