Any advice on thier care, advice on how to handle them I have heard that they are biters, and advice in general would be great thanks Jennifer

I do think that your getting them for a good deal because were I live they cost 90 bucks, and you should get 2 females or a male and a female because if you put 2 males together then you have 2 watch them alot because like any lizard there teritorial and might fight to there death.

25 is a ok price if its for one. ITs great if its for both. I paid 20 for my one Golden Gecko Azmrith. As for them beign bitters i nevr had a problem but i feel any gecko or for that matter any lizard can be tamed with regular handeling. It just dapends on the lizards personality.

dont handle the gecko because it will get really scared I would sugest that you let them get used to the Idea of living there and if you live in canada dont put your cage near a window

Wow...that sounds like a bit too much for me. I was given Fatman, but he cost $5.00 from the petstore my friend got him in! I would be extremely careful with getting a pair. I tried to get Fatman a female companion once, and Goldie turned into a male! Goldie had not developed prominent hemipenal bulges, so we could not tell until they were hissing and attacking each other! In fact, Fatman tried to mate with Goldie at first, but I guess that that didnt work out very well. My Fatman is very gentle, he only bit my sister once because of the way she was holding him (it was an accident), and he has never even gaped at me. I handle him a lot, but Goldie was very skittish and did not like to be handled, so it depends on the gecko. Fatman is happier outside with me than in his cage, but hes just a weirdo I guess. They are not as aggressive as their cousin Tokay Geckos, but they can be aggressive. Goldie was never mean to me, just skittish and did not like to be handled. If you want to tame them it is best to get them to stay on your hand in the tank, so your not chasing them all over the house if they decide to jump off! (and they are good jumpers too!) They will get used to your hand, but give them a few days to adjust to their new surroundings, and make sure they are both eating first before you try anything like taming and handling. My experience with Fatman has been wonderful, hes a very curious adventurer, but he usually does not wander out of my sight, and loves to be petted. I hope this helps you, and best wishes for you and your new geckos!

Hey Jen, i have a golden gecko my self, its a male. i dont think that its is a good idea to get to males and keep them in the same cage. i had 2 males and one ate the other one. you can tell if they are males if they have two bumps at the base of the tale. you said that you have a leopard gecko now, how big is that? if that is big, and considering that you already have that. it is going to think that the golden geckos are in its territory and try to kill them. that is only when its gets bigger. you would be suprized how aggressive a leopard gecko can be. i might be wrong, because when i bought my second golden gecko i already had my first one for about 8 months. so i think that is why he got eaten. but you might be fine if you buy them together. they are also know to be an aggressive. when i first got mine i think that it bit me about 3 times. it doesnt really hurt, just scares you. but they do bite. they also dont like to be held. mine lets me hold him just because i do it alot. so you might want to start early if you do want to hold them. and i dont know if you know this but they are nocturnal and they like to climb. they will climb on the glass too. but if you have rocks they do go under those. i have my cage set up the long way so its more long then tall and that is fine for him. he just hides under rocks. like your leopard gecko. they eat the same things as the leopard gecko. in the summer though you can cathch grass hoppers and things like that, they like those. they also like it moist in the cage, so spray it aleast once a day, keep it warm too. i have this really good porcelain heater that last for 5 years. i suggest getting that. it is way cheaper than getting a light bulb. and dont get heat rocks. over time they will burn the lizards insides. really bad for them. but yea thats about all you need to know, if you have anymore questions just let me know, have fun, they are a great pet to have.

My friend as 2 golden geckos...and they are at least 8 years old. The humidity should be around 75%. So have many fake plants for them to hide and climb in...they mostly stay high...like on the wall. They are pretty aggressive, but im not sure if you were to handle them alot when they are young then maybe they will be alittle more tame. but im not sure. Moist hide or moss is always well appreciated. They dont need any uvb or anything like that. The heat should be around 79-86 degrees, and obviously...i shouldnt have to tell anybody this..NO HEAT ROCKS! Well im getting all this from my friend so i guess thats all! Cya! and good luck!

Golden geckos,I am getting two need advice

hi there
i have a golden gecko and i really like her,or him i dont know either.it has a 50 gallon take that got for 50 dallors and i got her for 16 and i might get like 2 more a a pet store for 16 a piece. i use a grow light or a plant light( you can get them at lowes) and she really likes that. im going to take her to the pet store and ask them to tell me the sex of it the i will get more depending on what it is. 20 is a good deal. how long is yours? mins is about a 10 inches so i think she is a little big for her size. but your getting a good deal..they are nocturnal(sp) meaning the come out at night so if you want you can put a black light on her for warmth dont put a hot rock or a hot pad in there it will burn the gecko. mine bit my brother but he was just trying to move her to clean the cage.. have fun with it and it really doesnt matter about the price as long as your happy with it.. welcome gaston

i got one golden gecko 4 12 dollars so that is a fair price. you reall just need a water dish and a hide box and a heat pad don’t get too nice a hidebox or it won’t come out. you could use a heat rock but they can fry your animals insides. you also need substraight but you can use carpet. spraying its cage once a day with a squirt bottle is good 2.

Just got 2 golden geckos myself. Paid $25 for both @ a reptile show! I think both of them are males. Noticed no aggressive behavior yet. I’m going to get a second tank just in case. Names are SUNNY & MIDAS. They hide alot. I’m reading all I can @ them. They’re eating and they seem healthy. Gave them the full gecko physical before I got them.

You guys all know that the caging requirement for a piar or two golden geckos is at the very least a 70 gallon.
A 30 gallon is the VERY minimum for one.
Mine are currently in seperate (I have two males) 10 gallons, but I am going to very soon be building two giant cages for them.
Out of wood and plexi-glass.
And one way to sex golden geckos is that if it is a male, it will often color up.
If it is a female, it will not color up and stay a darker gold/ brown color.
Also there is something about bulges that never seems to stay ion my head.
I have had one of mine for 6 years, and one for 5 years.
NO HEAT PADS.
No UVB is nessecary(although may be helpful for geckos that eat a lot).
They do not need but one hiding spot.
Their decorations/ furnishings shoudld be taller, as they are aboreal more than pretty much anything out there.
In the wild they live in trees, and only come down when there is low food up high.
They very much prefer the trees.
Alright, hope this helps.
Bye.

I just read this whole thread again, they are not dester geckos!
No sand!
Dirt, coconut fiber, coconut chips, paper, papertowels, cloths, they all work.
But sand is the exact OPPOSITE of what they need.
Plus, what if they eat it?
Bye.

I just read this whole thread again.
Someone said to get one at PETCO.
DON’T!
I don’t know about your PETCO, but mine has loose tokays, red tail boas with mites, under weight iguanas, house geckos with green stuff coming out of it’s eye, and tiny cages with no proper heating source.
Go to reptile expos.

I live in Arlington, I also got my golden geckos at Petorama, but I had to drive to Waxahachie. Anyway...I only paid 10.00 a piece. My goldens loved to be held. I hold them everyday and work from home with them on my shoulder. They are great. One will just sit there and the other likes to walk around on my shirt. They are great pets.

Somebody said play with them 30 minutes a day. dont. no reptile "enjoys" being held, they simply tolerate it. i have never kept goldens, but know that you shouldnt hold them 30 minutes a day. that would stress out all but the tamest gecko. from what i understand is that goldens are also less tolerant of handling than say leopards i am not sure if you are supposed to hold them at all, but some ppl do, and i have heard they can be trained. If you want a gecko that can be held, get a crestie or leo.

and to add to the whole petco thing, mine has 5 gallon cages with like 50 baby leos in them. I remember when the petco near me had healthy animals, but it seems that time has passed. If no herp specialty stores (or just GOOD normal petstores) are near you order herps off the internet, or go to a reptile show.(usually there will be at least one near you at some time during the year.) i drive about am hour to get to a good herp store near me.
