 Beginner gecko keeper.

What would you guys suggest i start with. I had a leo before, but he had some issues, and would never eat. I tried many things to get him to eat, but he died. I also hav a bearded dragon, and had a chinese water dragon, which is another story i dont want to get into. So what would you guys suggest, another leo, or other?

Thank you.

If you lost your leo, which is the easiest gecko to care for, due to starvation, I have to worry about any future reptile you may purchase. For now take care of your bearded dragon and turn all attention towards it. Have a vet which can look in on the reptile annually and learn how to forcefeed once the need arises.

On the side, if you’re looking for a beginner lizard and are afraid of getting bitten, why on earth are you asking for an ackie in the monitor forum? It’s neither a beginner nor something that will be handle friendly.

I agree with Kelli on this one.

Be sure to focus your attention to the animals that you have now. It is a good idea to get the hang of taking care of one animal properly instead of overloading yourself with the responsibility of more than one. Be sure to do things right with the bearded dragon and keep it healthy.

kelli you should NEVER assume it was something the owner did to make the animal die.. YOU KNOW that there have been and are alot of issues with animals at pet shops not eating and dying because the petshops are idiots(most of them anyways) and the mass breeders they get them from are less than reputable usually... i mean come on you know about the whole Crypto outbreak at the beginning of last year.. that no one did anything about and is still going on.. im really disappointed on you for making it sound like he did something to kill his leo

if your looking for something to start out with and are going to use your leos old cage i would first totally disinfect the leos old cage with a 5% ammonia solution with HOT water(dont burn yourself either).. spray the cage down really well and probably soak the bottom of the cage for a good few hours, dump it out let it air dry over night and then rinse it out with hot water again. or if you would feel better just get a new non used tank and theres nothing to worry about with cross contamination with the new animal you get.

if your looking for starters that are handleable and good beginners you can go with a leopard gecko again, there is the crested gecko, if your looking for something small theres viper geckos.. do a fair amount of research on each and come back with questions if you have any.

oh yeah.. when you decide on what you want the best thing is going to be to get it off the internet with a reputable breeder that we can help you find one when you decide what you want
