I hope I’m right as we just found him almost frozen and very skinny. Since we’ve had him (almost a month) he’s grown and is very active.

It’s a Mediterranean house gecko. Give him lots of stuff to climb on. Do you know proper temps and humidity etc?

no, fill me in. I was just thinking he was a common house gecko, so I just spray the entire tank once or twice a day, have a 100 watt bulb on about 1/2 they day.
what else do I need to know?
(oh, and thanks for the insight)

A 100 watt might be way to high. I usually keep the temps around 80-85 during the day and 75 at night. I have mine in a 20gal tank with lots of climbing and hiding spots. I use reptile carpet as a substrate but bed a beast is ok. I just don’t want to risk her eating it and I don’t have to buy new substrate all the time. Keep the tank around 75% humidity. You can buy moss to help keep the humidity up if you need to. Make sure it is reptile treated though, and cleaned very well before added to your tank. Do you have a thermometer/hydrometer? You’re going to need one. A digital is best. A shallow water dish is a good idea, but they like drinking off of leaves and the sides of the tank in the evening. I can post a pic of my tank if you want me to.

I was thinking the 100 watt was a bit much, that’s the reason I put the heat source up a little higher. (see the picture) I a thermometer and it reads between 80 and 85 with the light on. I turn it off during the night, but I keep on the heating pad on low. (again, see pic). I’ll check the temp in the morning to make sure it doesn’t get too cold. But this poor guy was alive when we found him and it was freezing and had been for several weeks. I don’t have a hydrometer, but I mist once or twice a day. I use this substrate peat moss mix. I need to put more climbing stuff, but all in due time. I’d love to see your set up. My fire belly toads are really happy in their living quarters and I want my little gecko to be happy too.

Aw I see now. You can buy a digital thermometer at Petco for $8 and it works great. Sometimes sticky ones can be 15 or so degrees off. I’ll post some pics tomorrow afternoon. Where did you find this little one? And what are you feeding him?

I found him at our glass shop. We’re moving so the gas (heat) has been turned off for about a month. It’s been really cold. My my husband got the last load & he found him under a box. didn’t move much and looked sick. My DH has brought home more strays than I care to count, so now we have a gecko. Apparently the building used to be an exotic pet store YEARS ago. I guess they’ve managed ok, ’cause they reproducing. I buy tiny crickets and dust ’em.

That’s it so far. ya know, having a gecko is kinda like getting a tattoo. it just makes me want anther one. :)

It could still be wild, but if he seems happy then keeping him isn’t a problem. Meds are introduced and can be found all over the place. It was nice of you to take him in. Yeah...I wanted one gecko...and now I have five but I still want more!
I’ll post some pics later =)

Awesome stuff to climb on! Sorry I held off on my pics...I just didn’t get around to uploading them yesterday.
K the glass is dirty and stuff but you get the idea...This is just a fish tank, a 20 gal. But it’s nice and tall for a med. house gecko and she LOVES it =)

The plants sticking on the sides are awesome. I noticed that house geckos and crested geckos really like to hide in them. Sky is in hers all the time.
