I agree with Squee. Most definitely not for the beginner. They cannot tolerate any neglect, and require very accurate husbandry. Not the hardiest species particularly.

They’re also very costly to start out with. If possible, get a CB one, or even a LTC. If you get a WC, make sure it’s been treated for parasites and been in for about a month.

You are going to have a lot better luck finding Wild Caught, but more than likely they will have parasites or other problems. Captive bred satanics are few and far between, and not many people are willing to give up their LTC’s.

Be sure you do your research before getting one. Even if you have plenty of experience with other reptiles, the Uroplatus are totally different. They take a bit more care and you’ll need to put your time in with them.

yeah with satanics in the good part of the year for shipping are usually at least $100 each more commonly $125-150... in the bad time of the year to ship(like now) they run about $200 a piece... some times you can get really nice deals durring the good season on them but that all depends how the lot the importer bought fairs through capture and shipping...

most wild coughts are treated before the importer ships them out to breeders/collectors but thats not always the case. so its always a good idea to get a fresh fecal into the vet asap

ive had 4 satanics so far through out the 2 years ive been dealing with leaf tails and out of them 3 were wild cought, two of those died, and one is Long term captive by myself(first one i ever got 2 years ago) she was about 8 months old or so when i bought her, comparing by size to the CB 8 month old(now 11 months going on 12) i have.

with keeping leaftails, especially satanics, its not about memorizing the care they need.. its about routine getting it right and down as fast as possible with as little incidence as possible and keeping it that way and even then sometimes they dont make it. the biggest part that you need to worry about with their care is temprature and hydration.. once they get dehydrated sometimes its really hard to get them hydrated again... i also dont let mine get over 75 F at all if i can help it..

a good indicatir something is off with any of the leaf tails is their tail.... if something is wrong with them one of the first signs is the sides their tail curls under and it kind of "wilts"

well i dont think humidity will be hard since where i live humidity is always around 70, so bumping it up a lil bit wont be that hard. Only time i have trouble with humitidy is with the dry climate reptiles. I love animals from madagascar. the temps in Puerto Rico are naturally perfect for them =D.

I know this post is a little old but I had something to add...If you can, don’t ship them, try your best to get them local, like at a reptile expo or pet shop. If one losses there tail during shipping, or other situation, there is a good chance of them dieing within 2-7 days. I have gotten 4 satanic LT’s, 2 lost there tails during shipping and died over the next few days. I was able to hydrate the others and get them healthy though it was difficult and took a lot of time. Also try an buy adults and get weights on them before you buy. 3+ grams is a good weight under 3 means that if they were WC they are young or had a hard trip here. Good Luck!
