A loupe is a magnification lens used by jewelers and collectors to look at things in detail. Reptile keepers use them to look for pores. If you can find some type of magnifying lens (a loupe is ideal), you can look for pores on the belly of your gecko. Start by gently holding your gecko and allowing it to calm down. Roll it over in your hand so that you have a clear view of the underside, specifically between the back legs. With the magnifying lens, you may be able to see lines of black pores running between the inner thighs of the back legs. If there are distinct pores, it is most likely male. If no pores seem to be present, it is possibly female...depending on the age of the gecko. It takes some practice, but eventually you’ll get the hang of it. Hope that helps you out a bit more. :) If not, be sure to speak up. |

Just wondering, does it matter how old the gecko is? mine is a sort of...well, baby. |
