 HELP!

so i’ve had my marbled gecko for about a month now. he’s been fine, eating normally and all. his temps are about 90 in the basking area and 75-80 in the cool side and i mist him twice a day. he has leaves to hide in a branches to climb and is on peat moss (like most of my reptiles). the other day i noticed a small red dot under his arm. i didn’t think much of it, but just to keep an eye on it. tonight i noticed more red dots on his back and tail! i have no idea what it is. i’ve tried looking online to see if i could find anything adn the only thing i can find that seems reasonable is red mites....but they don’t look like bugs, just a red dot (like a tiny little ball). if anyone has any ideas please let me know! i tried to get a pic but they are so small i can’t get a good one.

 HELP!

I recommend you see a vet. It could be the mites, as you said. But it could also be an infection of some variety as well. The vet will be the one with the professional advice in such a matter.

 HELP!

Oh, this is common sense, but also keep the marbled gecko and its tank quarantined in a separate room for now so there is no spread of this problem to your other lizards/reptiles.

 HELP!

I wouldn’t worry too much. Mites can be treated. And so long as the lizard has no broken bones or is showing any mental signs of difference (ie, hasn’t eaten at all, isn’t as active as usual, acting strange), an infection can also be treated easily with antibiotics.

You already have a Tokay. Marbled geckos bite just about as much, but not as painfully. They’re also far spazzier than other cousins of the Tokay. So it may be a bit difficult catch the gecko and treat it in the long run. But you seem to know what you’re doing.

I have a marbled, myself. She recently laid infertile eggs. And while she’s a bit on the thin side at the moment, she’s eating on a regular basis again. Back when I treated her for parasites (when I first got her), she made my hand bleed and itch from bites many times, crapped all over me, growled, and at one time dropped the tip of her tail in an attempted escape.

 HELP!

yea, he’s bit me once. the tokay has yet to bite, but i try to leave him alone. she gives me that look like "if you touch me your gonna get it". the marbled will sometimes let me pet him but picking him up is a no no. if i have to take him in, i’ll probably wrangle him into one of those critter carriers.
i called the vet but he’s out for a couple days, so i’ll try him again later, i’ll just be sure to clean that cage last and keep an eye on him for any drastic changes.
