Gecko question Hey all. I have a question (obviously). I’m new to the whole gecko thing, but I’ve been looking at getting a couple geckos, more specifically crested or house geckos. For a newbie, is there any real difference between taking care of one type of gecko over another?
PS. I’m not sure where I’m putting them yet. Right now, I’m just researching/looking around at different animals.

Gecko question Yes, each gecko species has specific care requirements. They come from all over the world, after all. Some come from tropical climates, some sub tropical, some arid and desert, etc. For this reason, putting different species together is not recommended at all as one would end up getting sick, bullied, or killed and eaten. To find the requirements for a specific species, look up ’care sheets’ plus the gecko’s name or latin name on google. You can also look up care sheets on this website. Keep in mind that half the people out there writing these things are wrong in some areas, so you have to look at more than one care sheet. You can also ask specific questions on forums such as this one.
If you’re new at this, go for the crested gecko. It’s a beginner species, easier to care for, and will live longer than the house gecko. House geckos are normally wild caught and have parasites.

Gecko question well, some geckos have very simpular care requirements and are sometimes kept together (tho i wouldnt) ex. the crested and gargoyle
and other then the crested and house, leopard geckos are sweet little guys as well. cheaper and easier to find in store ect. (although my store has them all most of the time)

Gecko question Thanks Derek, I might be able to make my ’rents stop off at Petco where I might ask to hold a house gecko. Havn’t held one, just admired. The others I have cared for and everything. Leos at school, Crestie at home...
Thank you :)

Gecko question I would go with a crested. House geckos are kind of like anoles in my opinion, great for display, but have parasites and aren’t handle-able.
Also, a gargoyle could really do some damage on a crested if they were ever housed together, so I’d never recommend it.

Gecko question Most anoles and house geckos are kept in overly populated holding tanks, and many are wild caught. I’m not saying they’re dull geckos, just that I think a crested is a better addition to a collection. Most don’t have parasites since they’re captive bred, unless they’re in unsanitary housing prior to purchase.
